Gavial Fish are easy-peasy. That oasis in western altepa desert has them. Matter of fact, I wonder if you could use abyssea - altepa to fish them up since getting there would be trivial using maw #06. Just gotta sneak for the fear dearg, and watch out for cuijatender! :P
Fisherman's Log - Star Date 10-07-11.. also known as Friday.
Entry #1: I set forth on my adventure down into the depths known as the Outer Ruins of Horutoto in search of a necklace that has the magical power to make me fish better. The local fishers of Windurst assured me the item lay here inside a brown treasure casket that any of the inhabitants could be carrying.
When I arrived at the ruins I met a floating book. It told me it would increase my prowess if I took it upon myself to do its bidding. It told me my task was to destroy bats and slimes.
Not sure why the floating book hates bats and slimes.. but I accepted its task and set out to the deeps of the ruins.
I'm not quiet sure how these bats could conceal a treasure chest of this size. They seem to magically appear upon defeat. Must be the doings of a Wizard.
Entry #2: I seem to have stumbled across a small creature inside the ruins. It seems friendly. I think I will keep it as a pet. I will name it.. Bompfu.
Entry #3
I think these locked caskets are screwing with me! It seems no matter what I try it's always a different answer.. and then they bloody vanish! How does a solid wood casket even do that!?
Entry #4:
The bats.. they keep flapping.. no matter how many I kill they just keep comming! The book demands I kill more of them! I.. I don't know how much longer I can keep this up..
I'm 25k GP away from KI to start Ebisu quest, any tips on catching the two fish for it? ^^
patience lots of it... i was lucky to have 3 friends lend me their lu's and even then i would have all 3 rods break in a row. i think at one run i snapped 3 went to rabao went back snapped them again, i had to take a break there for like an hr to calm down lol.

The absolute best way is to ask a friend who has ebisu to help you. It will save you days/weeks of fishing / millions of gil possibly if your luck is bad enough.
Just don't overwork yourself, don't burn yourself out. If you think only a few more fish will get you the item so you push yourself that much harder, I would suggest not to. It can take you hundreds, even thousands of fish until you get the item. Or you could be one of the lucky few (and I mean few...) who get it under 50 fish each.
Take it easy, when you need a break take a break. Also don't put it off, keep a balance and make a routine everyday that you can stick with.

So very much this. Fishing them with a Lu's takes a lot of patience.
Penguin and Albatross rings help with the fish themselves.
Luck helps with not shattering your rod.
Loud music helps cover up the loud screams of nerdraging.
What does fishing skill affect? I'm a noob at crafting.
Well...
I think it increases bite rate, but only if you get closer to the fish's level. Once your over I can't say for sure if you get more bites or not, I would say no.
ummm lets see
It could increase stamina reduction, highly doubt it though
I would say it lowers the chance of line snaps on large fish, that seems acceptable.
I know it increases the chance of angler's senses messages popping up, and that decreases stamina recovery (when you move the rod the wrong way) by 30%.
I don't think it directly affects stamina recovery though.

Fish other fish for gil to buy the liks and gugrus. When waiting for those fish to sell, fish them up.
Im at 96 fishing, and fishing pterygotus atm, and skill ups are SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW, is this just normal at very high lvl crafting?, cause I dont have any other crafts that high I Literally caught 600 peterygotus, 1/2 with a pelican ring charge on, and got a combined total of .6 skillups
does taking off fishing gear help at all? I have smok and waders.....,
I also fished during new moon once, but didn't help much.
I dont even want to bother with ebisu till im lvl 100, cause Ive had some veteran fisherman told me that the drop rates for silk and shoot are slightly better.
Ive already turned in about 50lik and 10gugru, and nothing and im not gona blow any more gil buying them for now, and not gona bother fishing lik till 99, I got 70ish woodworking, so I can fix my lus w/e

The only reason it would be better at 100 is if the harder to catch fish have a better chance of having the shoot. I have not heard any evidence of this so idk.
Just, if it was then level 100 fishers with furnishings/gear would be able to get those rare gugs easier than someone w/o it. They could then sell these fish above the normal price.
I've seen people do this, and I think its just BS. I still think its just luck.

Fairly sure this isn't a troll, but...
Your level has absolutely NO effect on the chance youll get a silk or a shoot. there are plety of stories on these very forums about lvl 100 fisherman going 1/1000, and having a spare fish left over, send it to a friend or a mule, and seeing them go 1/1
If you're fishing them up yourself, sure wait until late 90's to catch lik/gugs, but seriously, 0/10, 0/50 is nothing. Nothing. The average for total fish seems to be around 2-300, and ppl get into the thousands if they're unlucky.
I know some people that have turned in like 10lik and got item, and no people that have turned in around 500+ and not gotten it >_>
I nvr really bothered to look up if size of the fish means anything on zaldon quest, but i doubt it....
I fish on the weekdays, cause i only play for about 2 hours, if i even play at all, on weekdays, but weekends I try to do w/e people are shouting for in jueno...
Ive always liked fishing, I've nvr onced used a bot, ive been fishing so much, that I can reel up fish without even looking at my char sometimes
I think fishing is good profit, if you dont want to focus on actually playing the game, 1/2 the time when im fishing im also watching something on hulu...
You'll most likely end up paying more for ebisu fish than what lu would sell for, if I converted mine into gil at the time I got ebisu it would be over 8 mil.

Cost me 7.45 mil in fish. Lu's sells for around 5m. Not bad at all personally, but I got really lucky on Gugru.
There are fishing topics that come up now and then but mainly are asking a question for a single answer. I know there are many fishers that visit these forums so this is an attempt to get people involved and have a little fun discussing one and only one thing, fishing!
The emotions of fishing.
I know Blue Gartr has a Fishing topic already, but I would like to see this community get involved a little bit and talk, since not everyone visits BG. I would love to have a topic just for fishers including veteran fishers, casual fishers, and even players just starting out and want to ask a few questions without being embarrassed about starting a whole topic for a simple answer they could not find.
I only ask that you keep any bot talk to a minimum, preferably none.[Moderator edit: No bot talk] I want this to be a place where we can discuss anything from GP items of the day to what lure/bait to use or what area is best. A quick mention of how you're doing on the lu shang/ebisu quest, how you're doing getting your fishing items from Grounds of Valor, that item you're saving your GP up for, or how much you wish you could hurt Zaldon for not finding anything in your fish for the 10,000th time. Your lucky moment streaks and the moments when you have nothing come your way and question why you started fishing in the first place. Anything that comes to mind, think of it as the random thoughts thread for fishing.
I will list a few resources that I find to be useful when it comes to fishing:
BG Fishing Topic Great Blue (Amazing Site <3, is out dated since 2008 but an amazing resource regardless) Final Fishing (Another great resource with one of the most in-depth guides made. Out of date though.)
Fish Size Chart [GE][Wikia] Chenon Diary (The site seems to be down for good though, it was a site made for Fish Ranking)
I shall add more if people provide good resources.
