I wouldn't look at that Fox News poll as public opinion as much as them researching how effective their propaganda efforts are when aimed at movements that do not further their own agenda. Apparently it still needs work.
Those "online" polls don't generally limit how many times people can vote. Its not impossible for say a bunch of OWS activists to vote repeatedly on it. There are polls out there however that show support of OWS to the Tea Party. some lean one way and some lean the other. Surprising that any poll still shows more support for tea partiers vs OWS since the media doesn't report the ones defecating on cop cars or the ones calling for violence or the vicious anti semitism.
What everyone can be certain of is that as more and more people get arrested within the OWS crowd their support will decline.
No, Flav. We're not saying it's entirely the fault of illegal immigration. Immigration is a good thing if it's legal and everyone is paying into the system.
Illegal immigrants do pay into the system. CBO research has estimated that between 50 and 75 percent of illegal workers work above board, and in addition to state and federal withholding they have around $7b a year in Social Security contributions that they're not eligible for that pad the rest of us. Even assuming they don't pay those taxes and work under the table, they pay sales and excise taxes to the tune of an estimated $428 billion dollars per year. I don't support illegal immigration, but we can't pretend that they don't pay into the system. I agree that it's primarily a culture clash, and between immigrants don't want to assimilate (which is understandable but problematic) and the fact that they are abusing the system in order to be here, it's easy to see why people take exception to them. Deportation will never be a feasible answer though. There are ~12m illegal immigrants in the US, or roughly 4% of the 300m US population. It would be the equivalent of deporting the 7th most populated state in the country (which I happen to live in, strangely enough) or the combined populations of the 10 least populated, more if you assume that even a percentage of them make it back in to be deported again. It could be tried as a deterrent, but it logistically can't work. Putting them in prison like Arizona is an even worse idea, since it spends more resources than they used out of prison and decreases their per capita contributions to the economy. The idea is so ludicrous that even most anti-immigration politicians won't touch it, unless they happen to be getting lobbied (or in the case of AZ, having their bills drafted) by privatized prisons at the time.
Be that as it may that they may actually pay into the system, but wouldn't it be better if a legal american had the job and then in the second case, in addition to sales taxs etc, they'll be paying state and federal taxes? I mean, you could swap around who has these jobs and I think that in the end it'll always be better for a legal american to have it as opposed to an illegal american; in effect, they're not really helping yar?
I guess my question to that is why weren't Americans hired in the first place then? I would assume the most likely answer is that its cheaper on the employer or those are just who they want to employ (by they I'm mainly referring to family members and those currently in the states fighting for illegal immigrants rights.) Would three illegal jobs end up being only one American job? Would you really want to do their job?
I'm not really fighting for illegals here just more curious than anything.
Maybe people are hiring illegals because the OWS crowd doesn't want to work for less than 20/hr?
Whenever young people begin to do anything, Republicans instantly go into hyper grumpy old man mode.
Get off my lawn and get a job you bunch of damn hippies!
That, or they got the same impression as a lot of people about the protesters (accurate or not.) Which was the fringe, probably, but also greatly featured. You know, people's who's complaint is nothing more than, "I have a degree, why don't I have a job?"
But hey, I get it. This is the internet. Funny pictures are still pretty powerful here, and it's always cool to make fun of Republicans.

I don't believe that you've ever actually voted in a poll on an online site. Limiting votes by IP address isn't a new concept and hasn't been for a long time. Do you really believe OWS supporters have nothing better to do than repeatedly voting in a Fox poll via proxies because they think that will somehow help them? Nobody worth trying to influence to begin with is going to care about the results of a poll on Fox News' site. It's not difficult to check how many times you can vote so I went ahead and did it.
Extremely accurate and humorous. Whenever young people begin to do anything, Republicans instantly go into hyper grumpy old man mode. Get off my lawn and get a job you bunch of damn hippies!

You act like Democrats don't get made fun of... It's pretty equal opportunity bashing on the net.

Interesting assumption. This is what I am looking forward to tomorrow. consumerist.com/2011/10/bloomberg-tells-occupy-wall-street-protesters-to-leave-park-by-friday.html Will they disperse w/o incident or will there be trouble? If there is trouble will it turn the public on them or rally support for them? Will this fizzle out (most likely) or will this explode into a full on social movement (less likely but far more exciting).
From what I read the people who own the park want to clean it up and Bloomberg went down there personally to speak to pretestors to assure them that they would still be allowed to return but they needed them to evacuate systematically to allow crews to come in and clean up.

Both get bashed on the web. Both deserve everything they get.
People that fall straight down PT lines w/o individual thought are the mindless idiot drones that allowed this country to devolve into what it is right now.

If I were there I would not be very inclined to believe them.
The company also said there could be damage to underground lighting systems that could be dangerous (lulz)
It's not hard to see said company saying, opps its gonna take 5 weeks of repair, your welcome to come back in 6 weeks time to resume your protest.
They also said the protesters would have to follow the rule of no camping.
I guess they are free to stay in one of NYC bargain hotels each night.
I doubt they will take the words of the mayor seriously. He's kinda part of the thing they are protesting against.
Just like the civil rights marches in the sixties -
First they dismiss you and hope you go away
Second they beat you and hope you go away
Third they jail you and hope you don't come back
Truth forever on the scaffold,
Wrong forever on the throne,
- Yet that scaffold sways the future

Please tell me what these protesters want?
I don't think it's so hard to figure out.
I would say the main point of anger is that you have people who are tired to gov being ran by corps with their dollars instead of the people.
Hmm, that's funny, I can repeatedly vote on it again and again. And YES I do believe some OWS people would spend a substantial amount of time throughout the day doing nothing but that.
Even if they are, don't you think there are far many more of you (who hate them for some reason) that would spend all day voting the other way?
No, we have jobs and work to do.
Yet you had the time to sit there and test it out and post about it too!

Do you think if you hate a group of people they are just going to magically disappear?
You think people who have left leaning and more liberal beliefs are just going to hand the country to you and cast off if you berate them enough?
News flash for the hard left and right. You are stuck with each other. You better learn to get along and work together or shits just going to keep on stinking.
I don't care if blank said blank about health care, or the environment or socialism or w/e everyone *** about all the time.
Not all libs are pot head hippies that live in their parents basement, and not all cons/tp are hill billy rednecks.
Quit listening to inflammatory media and squabbling like political 5 yr olds. This country is going into the tank and we all have a common problem that needs solving.
Repubs and Dems in washington are corrupt. They are all bought and paid for. It's not so hard to see if people would pay attention with their own eyes.
Today on talk radio, the hosts were just giggling at the prospect of these protests ending due to the rain and Bloomberg's declaration that the protesters need to leave the park so it "can be cleaned" tomorrow. Many hope that the "trash" will be swept out.
Apparently cleaning the park trumps the ability to peacefully assemble but I digress, this is the same guy that changed term limits to suit his 3rd term as mayor then flipped around and decided that no one else should get a 3rd term once hes done.
Sounds American to me.
About 4 people continuously calling in to say "why dont they just get jobs?" added to my amusement. Hey guys, how do we solve unemployment across the country? Just get jobs.
Maybe people are hiring illegals because the OWS crowd doesn't want to work for less than 20/hr?
The average yearly income for Americans is 40,711. 48% of American households have a combined net yearly income that lower than a $20/hr wage. 6% of workers make minimum wage or less (service related jobs that accept tips).
There are currently 14.1m job seekers in the US and 3.2m job openings. At a 4.4:1 ratio of unemployed workers to actual jobs, I'm sure people are just holding out for that one that pays better than half of all households on average in the country bring in. More households than that really, since for every person making $100.00 an hour ($208,000 a year, not even the 250k a year magic number for "rich" people!), it take 7 minimum wages workers to even create that 40k average.
Damn bro, we're going to need more Mexicans. Or for people to stop pulling stuff out of their *** to try to make a point. Either way.
Well, it's been going on for almost 2 weeks now so I guess it's newsworthy, yet I haven't seen much about it. It's a protest on Wall Street, primarily on the greed and corruption that festers in that area. Between government bailouts of big banks, lobbyists being the directors of lawmaking, and politicians who give in to these obvious benefits, we've seen a great deal of corruption in the US as of late.
Just May of this year, Obama's appointed Meredith Baker went from being the FCC Commissioner to a top lobbying position for Comcast-NBC. Something, just months prior she had used her FCC vote to try and benefit. An obvious conflict of interest.
Or how about General Electric(GE) getting tax refunds by making its profits all off-shore.
Now, this certainly isn't a Cairo sized event, but it very similar to how their protests began. It started with a large group of young citizens, of course. It's usually a common dismissal for some people. "Yeah, yeah, they're college aged kids who think they'll make a difference, whatever." The fact is, is that protests will always come from this group first and foremost. They don't have the daily responsibilities of taking care of a family which ties older age groups down. Not that different age groups can't support them via the means of internet media.
Well, anyway, there has also been accounts of police misconduct. The protests have been primarily peaceful sit-ins, regardless there was use of pepper spray in one instance.
If you're interested, keep your eye on this movement. I doubt it will be a revolutionary event, but it does express a lot of popular disdain for current issues with corruption.
