Atm, lvl 92, with capped Blue and Sword skill lvl @90 ( merits bla bla ), inside abyssea with RR, VV, Apo, a half STR and half Accuracy set, on Tough ( non particularly evasive monsters, mostly the golems in ule from which it's learned ) Heavy Strike is really bad :(
( about 1/10, 1/15, serious)
Real sad :(
Please tell me I'm a noob and am doing it terribly wrong, it will be much appreciated.

Is it really that bad?
Gonna go learn this spell first thing in the morning (after level cap), then level the job and play around with it.

Indeed. No offense but, I hope you're doing something wrong too because if that's the kind of acc you're getting on T Golems, it's going to be useless on even fodder monsters and COMPLETELY useless on any sort of HNM.

At level 92 I'd guess I got a ~75% hitrate with it vs capped level pugils in Abyssea - Grauberg, using full STR set (Heafoc Mitts). Certainly more misses than there should have been. Sword skill was uncapped obviously, but I'm not seeing any use for this spell on anything VT+ outside Abyssea if it's that bad inside Abyssea...
Damage with RR/SS/Apoc is respectable but meh, would rather have a spell for new content.

The accuracy seems to have been nerfed even more than it was on the test server. Thanks, SE. :/

the return of blu/thf? otherwise it's a waste to use it...especially with CA/EFF to blow 100 tp on a miss. I really hope they rework this

I don't understand why people keep suggesting BLU/THF. If you're going to use SA, then why wouldn't you just use benthic typhoon or something? /THF does absolutely nothing for heavy strike, not to mention the fact that it's 100% crit.

Yeah, gimping your melee damage just so you can get the spell to land once a minute is a fantastic idea. No.
I should mention I had acc bonus trait set in that exp party, specifically for Heavy Strike >_> The accuracy on this spell is just awful.

I'm talking about an event where you don't melee or melee at a bare minimum. in other words, a time where you mostly come in, do a spell and gtfo. I haven't done voidwatch so I don't know if there's a place like that for blu, but in abyssea it's /nin /rdm or gtfo. so pointless in an event like that. But still, I can imagine blu/thf being decent with it if it's needed

There's definitely better options than /THF. Also /WAR /DNC where?

what nuke would you use outside of abyssea that would compete with a physical spell?
Edit: Furthermore, blu/thf lets you do damage while keeping hate on your tank so you don't have to worry about something chasing you around if you managed to do noteworthy damage a nuke. Again, this is all specific to the situation where you'd need/want blu/thf or anything/thf for that matter.

Speaking about pure efficiency, Dark Orb or Regurgitation.

Pretty much. Also it seems that there's a glitch with Sudden Lunge, you can't cast it if there's a BST in the party as far as I can surmise.

Again, this is all specific to the situation where you'd need/want blu/thf or anything/thf for that matter. There is no such situation, it really is that simple. Also, Regurgitation says hi. 500+ damage easy on VWNMs, hateless, spammable.
Valefor.Prothescar said: »Pretty much. Also it seems that there's a glitch with Sudden Lunge, you can't cast it if there's a BST in the party as far as I can surmise. Sure that's not Spellcast? Right now it treats Sudden Lunge as a BST move, /raw /ma "Sudden Lunge" <t> should work.

a spell being hateless still doesn't change the fact that if you wanted a job /thf it's so you can do damage, plant hate on a tank. Saying there's no such situation is evading the point. I didn't once say there is definitely a place for /thf but that doesn't change the fact that /thf with Heavy Strike, or any physical spell for that matter, is more useful in terms of keeping hate not just off yourself, but off other people too. The debate isn't even about magic nukes vs /thf sata, so quit trying to stroke your i'm-always-right-stick. My original point is the only time I could see Heavy Strike being worthwhile is if you /thf otherwise it probably just won't land.

| Based on feedback and Test Server results, some adjustments have been made to blue mage spells.
For balance purposes, the intention is for Heavy Strike to be very powerful, but with a higher chance to miss. Dark Orb was adjusted to balance cost performance in comparison to other Blue Magic.
Please try these out on the Test Server and provide feedback.
This is a follow-up to the previous post about Sudden Lunge.
We will work on fixing skillchain not showing up visually and in the logs, when Sudden Lunge produces a skillchain. (This is just a visual bug, and the effects of skill chain are actually triggered.) |
