I think internet dating definitely has its place. Not every town has places where singles can meet and some people can't meet people in person. I'm sure alot of us on these forums have trouble talking to people irl but have no problem being a douche on here, I know I don't.
But to the point, internet dating has proven itself incredibly useful, from a personal angle, my aunt met her husband on a dating site. She's not too attractive and had two kids at the time and was a single mother, her chances of meeting someone irl were very low. But she's met a good guy and I'm happy for her.
Personally, I find it a little weird, yeah, but its really not. I got lucky and met my girl in hs, but if we ever split I'd have a hard time finding someone new sitting on forums and FF all day.
I can't help but think about the stigma surrounding internet dating. When it comes right down to it, I think I'm better than that, but hey, I'm single still. whats the difference with looking for someone on the internet and someone at the bar?

I do see how it is beneficial for some people, but I hate to think of all the stories where people have been taken advantage of or killed. (I know this spiel has been repeated over and over on here.) You just never know who is on the other side.

I have unrealistic expectations. I feel as though I shouldn't feel as if it's bad, but I do. And not like it's the end of the world, but despite some effort, I have an ego.

Probably one of those with the legit commercials? eHarmony or whatever its called is that still around? Hell, even Facebook could be used as a de facto internet dating site.

Yah there is certainly a stigma about it, and I am sure there is that perception that a person has given up on the dating scene and their own devices to even try online dating.
I personally consider it as a last-resort, and try to do it the 'conventional' way (just going out to meet people) but having seen how successful some of my other friends were using online resources (even *shiver* Craigslist) I do have to admit it opens up a lot of options.

Oh not so much anymore with work being such a bear. Back when I did have more free time, I participated in the older MS Paint ones (for Round 2)...at least until Spence and Shotzie gave me a hard time for...sniff...turning in submissions on Saturdays. ;_; *so traumatised* :p
But I saw you comment on the most recent one...you should submit one, too. ^^ It's fun and easy...it's all about the lol-drawings and not so much about super-amazing execution. :)
I would, but I'm horrible with MS paint. Rin's was fantastic though! She is very very talented!

I've heard that eHarmony claims they're responsible for something like 44,000 weddings a year. I'm not sure if that's just in the USA or North America, or what, but still...
I've also heard many people just like to hook up using dating sites.
I'm a hopeless romantic, emphasis on the hopeless. I want a story surrounding how I met my girlfriend/wife. Meh. One day.

What if you've never found the dating scene? A lot of people are trying to find ways to meet someone but never seem to find one. A website is made solely for people trying to get together, so it takes out the chance of a random encounter that turns romantic with someone.

As a whole, humanity is rather pathetic. This. And on a side note this gave me an idea for a comic. The main character will be called "Unconventional Oven" and hes well...hes an unconventional oven, not sure what that means, maybe it has a mohawk or something. Anyway, each episode he meets other appliances through internet dating and each one ends up having some weird pathos.

I have to answer this one.
there are more people on the internet than there are in one bar on one given night.
in a bar i can get drunk and maybe screw up and be paying child support the rest of my life. while as long as im on the internet the worst thing that happens is i fall asleep during a boring IM convo.
there's still stigma to dating online, but ive been thinking in a few years to try it out after ive achieved my own personal goals in life (the major ones at least).

There is a lack of comfort you have to admit. If you're going to do it it may as well be in a huge social setting.

Zahrah: It's a reverse vomit, though. :p It sucked up all the taru's newly-earned funds. :p
Serj: Yah, that touches on what Spence says about the whole endearing serendipity-backstory-romance. ^^ But the sad reality I run into myself trying to just meet casual everyday happenstance-people are that most aren't going to be compatible for a number of reasons, whether due to marriage or sexual preference or life situation, or age or whatever.
The whole online dating thing at least eliminates that randomness, and doesn't limit you to the daily patterns your own life takes (or rather doesn't...like the number of people you might meet if you simply shopped at another grocery across town instead of the one you regularly do, etc.) LOL
(Not sure if my point is contrary to what you are talking about, though.) :p
