Final Fantasy is a media of games. Not a media of art. The storyline and characters are portrayed almost entirely through the universe and interface of the games. How they appear in the games and what occurs in the games is what is considered canon.

Amano's art is often different from the finished result, but any player will recognise the ingame designs as the "proper" ones.

What appears in the game defines the canon of the game.

So once again... Cloud in FFT? Luso in FFT? Canon?

Also, most fan-fiction is actually MORE canon than the actual games themselves.

I agree; When Jeuno Fell is more real to XI than the mini xpacs :P
