Also we only really use plutonium fuel in order to reprocess it instead of just disposing of it as waste. Usually from dismantled weapons

Quote: 0421: If you've just joined us, here are a few pointers about the nuclear crisis now unfolding as a result of Friday's earthquake. The problem centres on one of two nuclear power plants in Fukushima prefecture, which stand 11.5km (7.1 miles) apart. The plant, Fukushima 1, has six reactors. On Saturday afternoon local time, a hydrogen explosion reportedly hit the building housing the No 1 reactor but the container of the reactor remained intact. Early today local time, it was reported that the emergency cooling system of Reactor 3 had failed. The reactor's fuel rods were reportedly exposed and a partial meltdown was believed to be under way

Maybe the AFP meant that the fuel rods had fused, and the meaning was lost in translation? :|

Sure but only an idiot would say fusion to describe things melting together when talking about nuclear power...

Especially in a fission reactor. It's not The Little Engine That Could: it's not like it can just try really hard and become a fusion reactor.

Fukushima uses MOX fuel, which is like a blend of Plutonium, and various blends of depleted/natural/processed uranium.
Basically like recycled paper in the world of nuclear fuel. So.. I don't..
I still don't know what Greenpeace is talking about |: may just be trying to make ppl fear nuclear energy :/

Alrighty, so some really messed-up people are blaming Japan for this for being non-Christian...rather shakes my optimistic faith in humanity, but, whatever.
So...when one of these nuclear plants has a meltdown, and the rest of the world is affected, including Christians, anyone care to predict what the excuse will be then?
I'd try, but my mind simply doesn't work that way, i.e., I have far too much rational thought in my mind than to resort to nonsensical, superstitious justifications for natural and random events.

OK that's just silly. The core is contained -- and HUNDREDS OF MILES AWAY -- we're not dealing with fallout, and what little steam has been released blew east out to sea. What do they expect to find? lol

japan is gonna nuclearly explode and radiate so far it's gonna hit hawaii and cali irony it'll be just like fallout 3 xDDDDDDD
Somewhere out there in this vast world, someone will believe this.

BBCBreaking at Twitter said: 0539: A before-and-after photo gallery on Australia's ABC News shows just how badly areas of the north-eastern coast were affected by the tsunami.
Edit: I missed this earlier, but it sounds important:
BBCBreaking at Twitter said: 0342: The Huffington Post tries to get to the bottom of the geological impact of the quake, quoting seismologist Daniel McNamara as saying the quake caused the land to sink: "You see cities still underwater; the reason is subsidence. The land actually dropped, so when the tsunami came in, [the water is] just staying."

BBCBreaking at Twitter said: 0545: The situation at the damaged Fukushima plant is still developing but Malcolm Grimston, an expert on the nuclear industry from Imperial College London, argues that the Japanese authorities should be proud of their foresight. "Given the circumstances, I think this is an extraordinary tribute to those scientists and engineers and designers who built these plants in the 1960s. I'm enormously impressed at the way in which these reactors have withstood the largest earthquake ever in Japan and one of the 10 largest that we've ever recorded on earth".
Hear, hear.

wow....
Yeah, these are just utterly shocking... The trees are completely stripped off, the fields are still flooded, and whole neighborhoods and even cities were just wiped off the earth...

Also, is it just my imagination, or did the tsunami actually strip a *** coat of paint off the runway at Sendai Airport? The landmarks are all the same, but those yellow stripes have moved, as if they had been repainted farther up.
