If you were to explain the gameplay/mechanics/story/etc to someone relatively interested in starting FFXI, for the first time, what would you tell them?
Pros and Cons of starting a new character?
Why won't anyone answer my question? D:
Let me lay it on you, baby. It's because you won't cast on our couch. Anyway...
Pros:
1. Leveling with Grounds of Valor is stupid fast. They can literally learn the basic battle mechanics by solo playing Rdm or Whm to about level 15 or so, then go to Gusgen Mines, dither around while waiting for an alliance, and then they can be level 50 by the end of the day... depending on how long they get to stay/how good the alliance is, etc.
2. Grounds of Valor allows you to power level someone with a non-mage job. If you friend leads a busy life, and they just want to advance up so they can do some of the story sequence, but you still have lots of time to do stuff, they can leave their character AFK and get free levels.
3. GoV/FoV tabs make getting around and back to your home nation a cinch.
4. Gear is pretty cheap these days, but crystal prices are pretty constant, so low level farming isn't too bad.
5. If you come to Bismarck you can be sexy with Josi.
Cons:
1. There aren't as many people dithering around the home nations as there used to be, and you really miss out on meeting tons of people early on.
2. Gusgen Mines leveling leaves you skill deficient, so you have to go skill up, which is another best-done solo type thing.
3. Your inventory is ultra limited, and the fame quests aren't cheap.
There's more cons, but at work, and actually have to work.
