I grew up with Street Fighter. I always had trouble with combos in MK though. Even worse now because I've become used to ones that use semi-circles and such like KoF and Guilty Gear. :/

Seriously though Zahrah, it's basically magic. They get to a certain level or you use a certain item on them or trade them etc. and they will evolve. All it does is make them bigger/different looking and usually stronger in all regards for battle. It really is fantasy *** fighting.
