I don't know why you're not charming stuff but you shouldn't need to be able to charm things to level at that level. I would say you're hunting too strong monsters. Use books on weaker monsters in lower zones for far faster and easier exp. so what you're saying is I shouldn't need to charm anything and just chain book things until...? The blacksmith was an accident. I run 3 monitors and I play Dark Souls on the left one with LoL in the center and my right having my browser open. I was clicked over to the internet browser and when i clicked the screen to go back in Dark Souls i did an attack....I just HAPPENED to be at the blacksmith >_>

The books in the highlands or la theine on the lowest monsters in those zones should do you to 20, maybe higher, can't remember when you stop getting exps.
