You can buy new keys for like, a few dollars a piece. I used to have a website for that kind of stuff bookmarked. I'll have to take a look to see if it's still there. They're really easy to replace. This is the site I had bookmarked. If they just aren't popping back up, or act like they don't want to accept input, it's probably the rubber cup/bumper under the key.

Um ok. The unspoken options were to take it to the shop, or buy a new laptop, but I suppose those are the superior choices then. :/
Guess I should also mention, I'm mostly just assuming it's just worn out, rather than an actual hardware malfunction as a whole. If this is the laptop you use to play FFXI, I can see the 4 key being worn out pretty easily. Backspace is a pretty heavy use key (for me anyway) regardless of what it's being used for.
Get the laser keyboard then lol

Unless other keys start randomly doing it out of the blue, I'd be willing to guess it's just the rubber contacts being worn out. Which would explain why it's hit-and-miss with whether or not the keys work.
My other post may have gotten missed between Schutz's post and yours, so I'll re-quote. It's a pretty cheap fix. They even have videos posted that show you how to do it. I use a cheapass acer keyboard but it works really well for me, I'm kinda picky with how the keys have to sound, feel, and the distance between them, so I hate getting new ones :/ Bought a keyboard for my PS3 but for some reason it wasn't a Swedish one so all the keys were in the wrong place >_>

 PS3 one I got  The PS3 one you posted is pretty much a standard keyboard for us, except it's missing the number pad.

Not like you need a numberpad anyway, practically useless.
I really like laptop keyboards that incorporate the 10-key pad...I find it's great for use in MS-Excel and other programs.
I couldn't have played FFXI without a number pad.
Well, I could have, but it would have taken way too much getting used to. but the Numeric Keypad is awesome
