Movie isn't necessary to watch before hand. Kinda introduces you a bit to the series and some of the people in it (Daniel Jackson and Col. Jack O'neil both played by different people) so that might actually be confusing. But it shows you how the stargate program kinda started and the first mission through it. Edit: I could never pull a fedora off. Me, my sister and a friend of ours all have one and sometimes we wear them when we go out. Usually get comments on it, it's fun. xD
