Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
You need to go into your sound/speaker configuration via control panel and make sure it's operating on the correct device and that all functions are working as intended. It should also display which programs are using sound and display green bars of volume as it is being played.
 Green bars. Running Windows Update now, looks like it might be working. <_<

The rig I'm aiming to build is going to be about $1300 or so. Granted I'm getting a rather expensive case (irrelevant to performance aside from airflow), and a Solid State Drive (fast, expensive, but low capacity). So you can choose where to make compromises and where you want to emphasize in performance. But generally speaking you will want most of your investment to go into CPU & GPU as these are what determine how well your games look and run for the most part. But you can build a relatively inexpensive mid-range gaming rig for $800 or so depending on where you pinch your penny.  Are the bars on the right supposed to be green? If nothing is showing up while you're playing music or sounds, then it's likely utilizing the incorrect sound device or the chip itself is kaput. If it comes down to being the latter, you can get one of these. Ah kool thnx gotta look around then :x
Have you tried plugging in headphones Auster? I'm going to just guess your speakers are broke.

Even though your sound chip drivers are "up to date", it couldn't hurt to reinstall them and reboot. I know my old *** PC has sound issues as even with correct drivers, decides to cut the sound as it sees fit, which only a reboot can fix. And even that is only a temporary solution. How old is your laptop?
Just a few years. I'll update and restart though, I haven't restarted it.
I might have to go up to Sky to farm light clusters to repair my fishing rod. just bought the last couple light crystals off the AH.. crazy.
Not looking forward to this long midnight shift on a Sunday. /sigh
Hope your sound issue gets fixed soon Aus.  I think I've played enough for today(and I won't sleep after being in a dungeon full of giant disgusting spiders coming out of every corner).

Resume my game of FF13 from 5 months ago.. or start a new game of FF12. (My second replay of 12 I was doing every hunt but it's been like 2 years since I played it and I forgot stuff)
