I still make guys bait the hook if it's live bait. I don't like the feel of worms, squid, crickets, etc. Taking a fish off is easy though. I do keep Purel and hand lotion around so my hands don't have that fish stink until we get back.
You should try! It's relaxing as long as you don't have someone who constantly chatters all the time, and will not relinquish control of the trolling motor. (Fishing with my dad is a PAIN!) Saltwater fishing is so much fun, even on a pier! Also, crabbin' is fun! I used to do that as a kid when we went to the coast.

Illinois. Was up in Antioch. We would go tubing waterskiing and fish up there. ooooohhhh and the paddle boats..
Edit: I did go to school in Milwaukee though.
Right on the border. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. I'm originally from Oshkosh. When I saw "Fox River" I squee'd. Oh, how I miss the Badger State. I also lived in Milwaukee for a couple years... not a fan. lol
Finally, another Wisconsinite(ish).
Milwaukee is an acquired taste for sure lol... it was awesome how you could leave campus and be "downtown" if you could call it that lol and then go the other way and be in teh ghetto... I did have some good times there though...
They have cages that you tie squid or chicken breasts to, you sink the cage, pull it up after a while, and voila! Blue crab! You could also just tie the bait on a string and pull up a crab. That was the most fun! You can catch crawfish the same way.

Are you talking about Marquette? If so... I lived in that "teh ghetto". lolol I was living on Lincoln Avenue for a while. Also, it's great if you want to smell Cheerios all day long. But I think the thing I miss the most from Milwaukee of all things is the zoo. That and the fact that I wasn't the only person who preferred Miller over Budweiser. I order a Miller (or heaven forbid a Lienenkugel's) out here, I get the strangest looks.

I don't know if you folks in CA have sand trout or not, but in the gulf around Father's Day you can wade out close to the sandbars, and the sand trout will jump all around you! There is no way that you wouldn't go home without five or so.

You should definitely try it sometime! Even if you're not reeling them in left and right, it's so nice and calming. I really need to go more often. Actually, I really need to take trips to Port Aransas more often. LOVE saltwater fishing!
