I'm considering home-schooling, too. Just a thought at this point, (well obviously, we aren't even having kids for at least a few years still) but right now I'm not altogether thrilled with public schooling. So anyhow, if I do home school I still don't want to give them outrageously stupid names, but teasing will be even less of a concern than it already is. But then how will I move to Idaho and teach little Lochlan the nuances of American literature and grammar while eating tons of potatoes?

Do a private school that isn't over zealous with christian teachings.
I went to private schools from kindergarden up to when I graduated 'highschool' (grade 12).

This is what I'm considering. Montessori schools! Episcopalian or Lutheran is a maybe. I would really need to sit in. I don't mind religion, but I don't want my kids inundated with dogma. I think the Episcopal pre-school here has Bible class once a week, which I don't think is that bad considering I don't go to church, my BF doesn't go to church, (assuming a lot about the future that may or may not happen ATM :/) so I doubt either of us would have anything to do with Sunday mass whether with, or without kids or together or not.
Hope that's not as confusing as it reads.

It's hitting me. :-( I was completely uninterested and didn't give a rip-roaring hoot about kids, and then I flew to North Carolina over the summer to see my sister-in-law give birth and help them for the first few days they had my niece at home. Little ninja hijacked my heart! And then in October my bestie had a baby, and we spent a few days with them in December. And I'm going to be 26 in April. I don't want to have children past my mid-30's because health risks increase for both the baby and me if I'm too darn old. So that leaves ~10 years for childing.
But we can't do it yet! With good jobs set up that we're moving to over the summer, we're hoping for 1 year to pay off the rest of our student loans. So I'd be 27. Then another year to save up a down payment for a good house. So I'd be 28. And once we are all moved in, to have a child-- 29. And I do not want an only child, siblings are the best. And I can't have another right away, so unless we twin-- 31, 32. That's starting to get old for childbearing. So I'm getting twitchy about it, especially if we have trouble conceiving which sets the whole timeline back even more. :-(

Well, my parents had myself and my brothers when they were in their mid 30's, so it's not all bad. Plus, this way you'll definitely be ready.

Well if you were the teacher I'd make an exception. ^^
I think public school skews a lot of what it teaches. A lot of things I learned in middle or high school history I found out later to be not really true, only sort of true. There's a good many people pushing for creationism to be taught in science classes. No. My kids will learn creationism with the rest of the myths and stories, and learn science in science class. And lots of other little things that build up to make me dislike the system overall.
A private school is a good option, assuming it's not a religious school.
The trouble with home schooling is that I'm afraid they'll be really good in any areas that I was good in, and really bad in any areas that I was bad in, and that's not really acceptable. I want them to get a well-rounded, good education and I'm not confident that I could give that to them.

Yeah...I'm on board with you. Weird. I was thinking that twenty-nine would be ideal too, but that's two years away for me. o.O I was also thinking two would be great!

I went to different Christian and Baptist schools. I have a dozen bible verse memorization trophies and awards. We had 'church' for 45 min.s on wednesdays during school hours. It was never required for us to go to mass on sundays and my parents never really wanted to do that anyway. We would go occasionally but that was it.
I always had good teachers until grade 9. the *** was out to get me and tried framing me for stealing things multiple times. Grade A honor student, 4.0 GPA who had been a that school for 3 years.. she was the Pastors daughter so he always turned a blind eye to her.. but some of the other teachers knew. I walked out midclass one day and quit the school. Within a week 9 other students in my class left because of her. Within a month they lost 20 students, 3 months the school closed down.
After that little fiasco I ended up homeschooling grade 10 - 12 in 1 year. Got my diploma at 16 through a 'christian homeschool program'. Honestly That 1 year of homeschooling really hit me hard in the social aspect of life. So I'm rather against homeschooling.
Overall my experience in private schools was good. They never shoved the teachings of the bible down our throats, but taught us in a way to learn right from wrong. That was mostly because of good teachers though.

Yeah, unfortunately the whole religious aspect seems to be difficult to get away from, especially in the Southern states. This is why I'm partially afraid to join any Atheist groups while going to ASU. Not that I'm not proud of my belief system, but really if it's going to put a pock-mark on my record to make it so it's harder for me to find a job in my field, why do something to endanger my chances?
At the same time it makes me frustrated as hell that we STILL live in a society where religion looms around every corner. It's been over 200 years, dammit! But yeah, if you can find a private school that doesn't dwell in religion, that would be beneficial, I'd think. Also, toss me their number... >.>

Made me LOL! We had to run hills in athletics because of a Methodist pastor's daughter who was a year my junior. She was quite the floozy at a track meet and the coaches found out about it.

I also want more time with my husband though. He's never been to Disney land! We have to go to Disney land, and on a cruise, and anywhere else we really want to go before we have kids. Because if I want to go to Egypt and see the pyramids, I want to actually see the pyramids instead of having to chase my three-year-old or whatever around in the sand, you know?
So I'm kinda torn right now. I do want kids and I feel like I'm running out of time, but at the same time there's living I want to do still before we do have kids.
Confusing feelings, really. :-(

You're not running out of time. Nothing wrong with waiting for the early 30's to have children. Have them when you feel you're ready and settled in life.
My sister had her first kid when she was 20, second at 24, third at 27. Her life has been a constant struggle because she has never had her ***together. She's just now gotten a stable job and a not trailortrash deadbeat boyfriend. She's almost 31 and tries to pawn her kids off on others just so she gets some free time.

well i mean the way i see it is that my mother had 3 kids each 13-14 years apart from each other <.<
the latest was when she was... 40 or 42 or something
So there really isn't a huge rush
I personally wouldn't wait until 40 years old to have kids but it shows that you don't have to be in a hurry to have kids

EDIT: OR OR!!!!! New meanings for existing ones!
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
