So in my western civ. class we were talking about the peloponnesian war. And towards the end of the lecture the prof was saying that athens sent several emissaries to sparta to negotiate some kind of peace. And she said that the spartan elders told their council/government peoples that they shouldn't trust athens etc etc.
and after that she was like "hah, it really was madness"

and i was like *raises hand* "Madness? No this is sparta"
then half the class laughed and the prof didn't get it

Anyone know of any built-in windows software that can make .ico files? (Icon files)

I used to use one a long time ago, called Michealangelo (?) dunno if thats around still (back on windows 98 / ME)

It's better than dealing with the annoying maintenance all the time. If you won the lottery, electrolysis is just a dime in the bucket.

:-( I need help from people who have dogs.

My dog Pixel is a field beagle, a little over one year. I know she's young and I know that with her nose, yummy-smelling scents are very difficult to resist. But I have had it up to my ears with her spilling the trash and eating things that are bad for her out of it.

I've tried spanking. Doesn't work.

I've tried sprinkling cayenne pepper, regular pepper, even wasabi powder on the trash so she burns her mouth a little when she eats it. Doesn't work.

I've tried squirting her with a spray bottle. Doesn't work.

I've tried making the entire kitchen off-limits, period, by telling her no and squirting her with the water bottle every time she even goes in the kitchen. It works, but only as long as I am in her vision range. The moment I leave to go to the bathroom or check the mail, she heads straight for the trash.

I've tried putting her in her kennel whenever I leave for even a few moments, such as to check the mail. I've had to take her to the bathroom with me, which is gross and annoying, to make sure she behaves while I do my business. But still, if she thinks even for a moment that I'm not looking at her, she heads for the trash.

I've tried taking the trash out every single day so it doesn't smell as tempting to her, but that's quite an expensive waste of garbage bags and she still gets in anyways. If there's no food in it, she'll dig out a napkin and eat that instead, etc.

Frankly, it's got to stop not only because she's driving me crazy, but because it's unsafe for her. She's eaten chocolate/cocoa powder out of the trash, which can be toxic to dogs. She's made herself so sick with constipation that she can't poop for days, she's given herself diarrhea for days. She's made herself puke multiple times from eating nasty crap out of the trash. I don't know what else to do for sufficient punishment to keep her out of the garbage.

When we have our own place, I'm hoping we have big enough bottom cupboards to put our garbage can in there anyways, but our apartment is tiny, with tiny cupboards. There's no way it would fit. And there's no good place to set it up high out of her reach, either, except the kitchen table which is just gross.

to train a dog you have to be very consistent and it takes a long time. i dont know what else really to tell you but maybe get a trash can with a lid she cant open

also try putting a high gate on the kitchen that she cant jump or climb

We'll try the lid thing. Thanks Chu. :/ I just don't get it, she's a good girl in just about every other area, but she absolutely cannot resist the smell of disgusting garbage.

A kitchen gate would have to be very high. She can climb onto my kitchen counters. D: But I'm sure if we looked we could find one high enough, or we could make one ourselves.

i know it might be annoying to take her in the bathroom with you, but if it doesnt let her go in and eat trash thats bad for her you might try to do it anyway :\ i have to do many annoying things for these dogs lol like taking them all out at least once an hour or else someone pees in the house lol ive been consistent and no one has had an accident for a long time lol

idk, since I dont have a dog, but maybe place the trashcan inside a door, or replace the trascan with one of those metal ones, that you step on the pedal to open a lid ?


side note, just had the best dammed cheeseburger I have had in a while. everything fresh, even the french fries, and also came with a salad....

This might be a little bit dumb and illogical of me, but I feel like if I can't even train a dog to do something as simple as stay out of the trash, then I will never be able to train kids to be good and I'll be a bad mother. ._. But at least kids understand when something is making them puke, right? Right?

well dogs are hard to train lol kids can be harder cuz they will know you say no, but do it anyway lol kids are tough but you need to be firm and consistent with them too lol no half assed being firm lol kids will take advantage. maybe some child proof locks on the trash cans could help o:

kids can actually think and plan lol dogs cant even come close to comparison in all the trouble kids can get into lol

The gate and weighed down lid ideas are good but wont deter behavior. What works for my friend's husky is a plastic bin with a small handful of pennies in it. If he does something bad, just shake it and it scares the bejesus outta the dog. Though consistant use, the dog knows better, and if he acts suspicious, my friend grabs the bin and he stops immediately lol.
