Good morning. ~.~ Here, have a novel:
Our apartment building is very old, as are all of the buildings in the complex. They used to have old oil heaters, which have been converted to gas. This morning around 5:30, in the building across from mine, a heater exploded. Thank heavens no one was killed, but there were some injuries and that entire building is evacuated while firemen are pretty much ripping it apart.
When we moved in, my husband took one look at the apartment heaters and said no way we were using that thing, so we bought space heaters. But that doesn't mean everyone else in our building won't use their prehistoric oil-to-gas heaters, though, which will annoy the firemen, so I'm halfway expecting them to come over here and evacuate us and rip out all this buildings' heaters, too. I might feel safer if they did!
Since most of the people living in this complex have pets, and since a lot of those pets are way too old and fragile to be standing outside in knee-deep snow for 3+ hours and counting, folks in our building have been taking in the critters and their owners to help keep them warm. It looks like most everyone got taken in already, but if we see anyone else out in the cold we'll try to get them in here and get some hot cider or something in them.
Lord, what a morning.
