Random Thoughts.....What Are You Thinking?

A few guesses: Obito Uchiha, Yamato, Madara in Shusui's body.

Obito was only half crushed when he gave Kakashi his left eye. I doubt Orochimaru would bother with Obito for his eye, seeing as the timelines wouldn't add up. (Obito and Kakashi are younger than Orochimaru.) And obito never stood out. But it wouldn't be hard to believe he coulda been saved by Rin or some other medical Ninja in the heat of the battle and taken off. I'm thinking Yamato because of his ability to change forms perfectly and mask his voice, as seen in the episode where they go and meet Orochimaru at the bridge. So it wouldn't be TOTALLY impossible for him to make a solid wood clone of himself to stay with naruto.

Also, my friend and I were discussing it, could be Madara's brother under the mask. If Madara could take his brother's eyes, and then implant them in himself, what's to say madara's brother couldn't take them back and do the same thing?

I have his entire collection of books including "Proud Highway" which is a collection of his personel letters to other people.

He "came up" literaly speaking during a writhing movement that was heavy into first person narative, like Tom Wolfe who wrote several books about the hippy movement in a style similar to reporting. HST himself was a reporter early on in his carrer. But one of the things that upset HST about that style of writing was the authors where usually too "chickenshit" to get involved in the story. But that's how reporting was typically done. The reporter stood back and observed what happened and wrote about it.

The style he developed was called "gonzo journalism" where in he became immersed in and then a part of the story. One of his first commercial successes in this style was "Hell's Angels" he went out and bought a motorcycle and then started hanging around with them. The book he is most famous for is "Fear and Loathing in Vegas"
which he always considered a failure. Because if you don't know the back story of the characters you miss a great deal. On the surface it's a tale of two weirdos who go to vegas to party. This has lead to his reputation as the writer that "was into a lot of drugs"

He wrote a great book about the 72 presidential election nobody talks about, that gives you a real feel of the inner workings of a presidential campaign, if you cared. He became famous for inserting fictional tales within the constraints of the real story. Like splitting a cap of acid with john chancellor, just to see if people were paying attention.

People didn't like "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 72". They wanted the sex, drugs and rock and roll of Fear and Loathing in Vegas.

The problem was he had left the "drug scene" just like he had left the hell's angels. He had moved on to the next assignment, so to speak. But he got dragged back in, because again, that is all people where intersted it.

So his latter work was more in the fear and loathing in vegas style. The stories revolved around him "covering" events as a rogue drunken drug addled reporter. Which was then parodied in the Dunesberry comic strip as "Uncle Duke" which didn't help either.

imo he too became a caricature of himself in a sense. I think he felt a temendous pressure that he needed to always "up the ante" with each of his books. But then if you read a book like the Rum Diary, which was one of first books he worked on, you get more of a sense of what a great story writer he was also.
