i'm not familiar with kodi but from googling it just looks like plex?

can't speak for everyone but.. in my 30s and financially secure enough that i'm not really interested in messing with torrents or illegal streams.

obviously the risk is low but it still seems like a relatively pointless risk to take

I guess its cool you get to avoid all the streaming sub fees but in my experience using Kodi and similar in the past, something always ends up breaking or stop working and you have to tinker endlessly with it to get it back up to working again. There is rarely a single guide, you have to google everything and people all recommend different ***like "I use RD + x and y, its the best." Well, whatever works for ppl. If theres a super simple quick guide you know of it could be neat to look into it, but I hate tinkering with stuff.

I did find some sites on google that have movies that are paid only on some streaming subs that you can watch, similar to Kodi, but they keep getting taken down lol.

Maybe Kodi needed tinkering with 10 years ago or something.

These software have come a long way. It's more stable and easy to use than anything else you'll use of its kind.

Like windower, if you add tons of plugins and addons and ***, it might run like a dog. Just don't mess with it and it'll run great.

You can buy rasberry pis with Kodi preinstalled these days.

Kodi def needs upkeep. Repos break and the whole Debian thing is too complex for my dad and his health issues.

I'd favour treating it like an appliance.

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

If you're happy with your version, don't update it.

Linux disciples are always preaching it's quick and easy and when you look into it it's a rat tail, longer than pantas drippy snot, of endless tweaking and tinkering.
