When she said crime shows, I instantly pictured her watching NCIS and Bones.

I just watched a video about a youtuber that went to live in japan because he is an otaku.

But the video was: "Why I dont want to live in japan anymore".

It was really amazing hearing so many aspects that made him conclude, he wouldnt be able to keep on living that place.

Thats probably because the neighbor grass is always greener. Nowadays I still think Brazil has many flaws, but I also feel like there are good points here, that are basically part of me already, and not having those parts anywhere else surely will become something that will make my adaptation harder or even impossible.

Japan is proud of their culture and like it the way it is, they don't like a bunch of cringe weeb invaders moving there. There is a push from the Japanese elites (and other globalist groups) to try promote it to western people and that's why you get all this media nonsense, but the majority of the people hate invaders and see them as a scourge on their pleasant society.

Same as every country, Japan feels about westerners the same way Canadians feel about Indians flooding in. Neither is wanted by the populations, just the elites.

Don't worry, the biggest foreign invaders in Japan aren't even Westerners, but Chinese. There are 3.4 million foreigners living in Japan, over 800k of them are Chinese. By comparison American resident has less than 1/10 of population of Chinese there.

And yes Chinese will continue to enter Japan because it's one of the best destination to escape from China.

I am not sure what makes you the representation of Japanese and Canadian opinion on westerners and Indians lol. You aren't even one of them. And yet you made the bold statement that their opinions on immigrants are identical.

Japanese in general has drastically different pov from Canadian on immigrants. Canada has always been immigrants friendly since 90s. It's probably one of the most immigrant friendly country in the western world. Canadians use a term, called "cultural mosaic", to differentiate themselves from other immigrant country like the US. And that has become a big part of Canadian culture.

It's not until housing and healthcare crisis recently then this trend has changed......and even then it's more of a "slow down on immigrants until we build our houses and train more doctors" not "no immigrants at all".

If the majority of population are against immigrants they wouldn't enter Canada 30 years ago begin with. But they chose to, and those immigrants entered the country 30 years ago are now all part of Canadian cultural mosaic now.

You are from UK, not Canada. UK wasn't even an cultural mosaic country like Canada. To my knowledge, UK only started immigrant policy very recently, so historically both countries aren't even close to being similar on this matter.

So what makes you think your personal opinion can represent people from an entirely different historical background?

What immigration was when it was the best and brightest and assimilation was demanded, and what it is now are different things.

The problem with Japan specifically, is if I move to Japan and assimilate and have great respect for the culture it does not matter, because me being there encourages other western people to go there cause of my presence and they will not. Over time more and more will go and it just ruins what people are going there for.

Japan has low crime rates and a wonderful culture, that will be utterly decimated over the next 10 years by western and other people going there to make yet another melting pot.

Was watching a documentary about what has been happening in Japan over the past 5-6 years and it's sad honestly.

They won't. You are viewing other cultures with your own lens. You don't even care how other different society works nor all the nuance within them, idk why are you making comments like this.

Japan has started to allow mass immigration over the past few years, it's wild. Go look at examples of how bad it is, not only has it become normalized for western people to go there due to people like Pewdiepie normalizing it but mass immigration is encourages by the jp elites of muslim, indian and chinese are all going in too. Crime rates are skyrocketing.

They are fubar, if ever there was a culture unable to deal with this stuff it's Japan.

Tariffs are good for Japan, they are removing the incentive to bring in so many foreign workers now. Before it utterly destroys their society.

Record 2 Million Foreign Workers Are Changing the Face of Japan

As a labor shortage worsens, companies procure help from overseas
By Erica Yokoyama

Japan’s demographic struggles are forcing companies and communities to open up at an unprecedented rate.

Last year, the number of foreign workers hit a record 2.04 million, up 12.4% from 2022, according to labor ministry figures released late last month. That inflow is set to continue at a fast pace as Japan seeks more assembly line staff, construction workers, vegetable pickers and care-givers for the elderly.

Foreign workers, not immigrants. Those are 2 very different things. Japan is increasing foreign workers because there is labour shortage, but foreign workers are NOT immigrants. Foreign workers are there to produce GDP for Japan and leave. They aren't going to vote for fundamental policy change on what this country is. They don't have the same civil right, and the government can kick them out of the country freely if they committed crime.

Immigrants is someone that can vote and change policy, nor can a country revoke their citizenship for crime. Immigrants are part of society unlike foreign workers.

In order to become a Japanese citizen, you need to renounce any previous nationalities. How many Americans out there are willing to give up their precious US citizenship just to become Japanese?

Until majority of westerners are willing to give up every western identity and nationality for Japan, it's not going to happen. They aren't going to make a real impact in the society because they are just there to experience different culture and work, not make Japan their real and only home.

Edit: so you referenced a post that says foreign workers not immigrants yourself? You don't even read your own post man....

Foreign workers reduce the quality of service and product, because they lack the attention to detail and pride in their work that Japanese workers have. The people living there would still rather not have them.

So who will do those jobs that nobody wants to do? You know, like care taking old people or working in boring factory like a worker drone? Or build your house under 40 degree celsius summer sun?

Japanese population is declining due to low birth rate, but someone has to do those jobs.

Foreign workers are in demand in the market precisely for these reasons.

Pretty sure that's the reason they are pushing for birth rate increase; they would rather have Japanese than foreigners. Maybe it's not a realistic demand for the citizens and the government recognizes a need for foreign labor, but maybe the country would be better off if they accepted that the market doesn't have to continually expand and a short term contraction would allow them to keep the style of life they are accustomed to.

I'm not Japanese; I can't speak for them. But, I'd take a 60% hit to my portfolio tomorrow if I could live in a high-trust homogenous society like Japan. I'd give up my citizenship in a heartbeat too, but like Radial, I don't feel that I belong there.

Well of course. Those foreign workers aren't stable nor loyal. Many of them don't feel they belong in the society. And other regions like Korea, Singapore and Taiwan need foreign workers as much as Japan. The moment someone else offer more money, those foreign workers will leave for more money.

If China invades and drag Japan into regional conflict, most foreign workers will leave too.

From the perspective of national strength, native population is going to be more loyal. You don't need to be a Japanese to prefer birth increase as a superior policy if you put strength of the nation on a higher priority.

I wouldn't. Living in a collectivism society already sucked. Living in a collectivism society with 60% hit to the portfolio sucked even more, lol.

Nevermind the fact that US paid 3 times better salary than Japan can ;p.

Uhuh, sure.

If one day China attacks Japan, would you leave or stay and fight?

Or if another bad thing happened, such as recession or crime rate increase, would you stay and face the problem with everyone else? Or would you leave?

If you are willing to give up your nationality for Japan, I'll believe you see Japan as your real home.

Otherwise, you are a gaijin.

been on plex forever (and paid for lifetime), but they're getting way too commercial

hate to swap to an inferior product, but it's definitely the type of thing where open source is a huge selling point
I've heard about their pricing change lately and excuse my ignorance but what is the point of paying for it at all?

Isn't it free to still self host? or is it to watch it remotely or something you have to pay for?

Main draw I have to plex right now is the app is on so many "smart" devices. I tried to play some videos on the ps5 the other week and was annoyed to find out there's no DLNA compatible video player on the damn thing but the livingroom TV has the plex app and am tempted to finally break down and install that on a host.
