Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
By Viciouss 2025-03-13 19:21:13
wait what? People think owning some land makes it so you can produce eggs?

Netflix recommendation of my own: Kaos. Canned after only 1 season evidently, but has some pretty unique and fun takes on Greek mythology if you like that sort of thing.

Well, I sent a message to someone who was listing an apartment that supposelly fits my need.
But after a day, no reply.
I mean, supposelly it should be them the most interesting in renting the place. Why not aswering quick?
My feel is that maybe they are having second thoughts...
By Pantafernando 2025-03-14 02:29:52
Ah, right, I just saw they unlisted it...
And here me thinking I had lucked out by sending a message right after the offer was posted...

Chicken coops take little space. in that regard they are correct.

At Walmart. Overall Chicken Coop Dimensions: 71.3"L x 26.14"W x 39.4"H, holds up to 1-4 chickens. Only $170.
In thinking it would be cheaper than the supermarket they are incorrect.

I didn't say it would be cheaper than the supermarket, I said it established a price cap and noted it'd likely be a bit higher than current prices. Eggs can never be 'rich people food' like Radial said, because there is a relatively affordable way for anyone with land to produce them. If eggs suddenly shot up in price to the point that poor literally can't afford them, you'd see an increase in backyard chickens because it'd become a very viable business to undercut the grocery store.
I actually live in a rural area and have spoken with several neighbors who own chickens, including a farm who sells cheaper than the grocery store. I don't own my own; I think birds are filthy animals and would rather not have them on my property (plus, my GSD might kill them).
I watched the first episode of S1 WoT and flushed it immediately, but I'm a diehard book fan. Season 1 convinced me to reread the books, so I'll give it that. Season 2 wasn't great. Looks like 3 is tripling down on the woke ***, for a series that already had huge emphasis on female power. Probably won't bother. I don't think everything has to be true to the book, I could see making small changes to dialogue or toning down Rand's harem/the author's fan service. But, this is a story that already has an immense amount of opportunity for female empowerment without altering the material. I strongly believe that a faithful telling would have still been seen in a good light by feminists. It's like the idealogues writing for Amazon feel like they have to continually shift it further.

My grandparent used to have 6 hens in bushwick Brooklyn in a makeshift hen house. I would chase them around and then get my *** whooped by grandma.
Also had a huge doggo named hector that was a brute but super nice.

Well, maybe that's why you missed city people's perspective and why eggs can be expensive in grocery stores and still get buyers.
I live in dense city center apartment so owning chicken at home is very hard. They smells and make sound, which will get plenty of complaint from neighbors. Even large dogs are not popular choice as pet here, let alone chickens exist only for eggs.
I have friends who owns chickens in rural area, but driving to his farm and come back takes 2hr. On the other hand, I can walk to super market for eggs within 5 min.
So even if rural area farms undercut expensive grocery store eggs by a large margin, it is still "cheaper" (if you consider time = money) than buying more expensive eggs in the city. I am totally willing to pay $10 to middle man to save 2 hr of my time. My wage worth more than that.
So is why you can't just undercut grocery store in the city and always win. It works for people living in rural area but not everyone.

I know 2 people with a dozen chickens right in the middle of the biggest cities here. They just use their garage as the coop. And a third that has a backyard coop. It's not really a where thing, it's a who has the patience to do it.
They've been raising chickens at their houses since I met them in elementary school 30+ years ago.

Egg prices are the least of your worries if you are buying backyards and garages 30 years ago for like 50k

It is absolutely a "where" thing and money.
In the biggest city center near my region, a small apartment with 3 rooms and a public parking lot cost 1m usd. No garage nor backyard included.
Keep in mind our GDP is 1/3 of the US, so that's more like 3m using American standard.
If you can even afford garage and backyard in the middle of city center (which will cost a several millions in usd), you can probably afford paying $100 for 12 eggs and not care about the price because you are rich anyways.

The biggest cities, are ghettos. lol.
Detroit. Warren. Sterling Heights. All the people live there, because they can't afford to get out. The lowest of lowclass, scraping by generationally.
History lesson you don't need, we refer to warren as warrentucky, because it's all hillbillies and rednecks. See; raising chickens etc They have literally never had two nickles to rub together.

Doesn't matter if the house you live in was worth 50k and now worth 500k. You live in it, that's not liquid currency.
Hypothetical 500k if you sell it. But no place to live in..

Imagine if you made sensible financial decisions and invested your money wisely? Why yes, I don't even need to imagine it.
Everyone starts from somewhere, unless Daddy has a billion dollars to gift you interest free so you can start your own property empire and name everything after yourself.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
