Only white owned companies get called out for a lack of diversity. No one cares when asians do it, indians, black, etc. even the LGBTQ run companies are filled with fellow LGBTQers. Its only a problem when hetero whiteys do it.

That's also super misleading to blanket Halifax as 80% European then make it sound like only 20% would be non white or non Canadian born. The 80% is heritage wise, and who knows how far back they draw the lineage from. Add to that, out of the European countries that people have come from, majority are from England and Scotland. Which... ya know. White, speak English.

Company was sued for discriminatory hiring because their background check process ruled out applicants with criminal convictions. Because a greater degree of minorities have criminal records, it was disproportionate. The lawsuit does not even claim the company was racially biased, they aren't allowed to prefer non-criminals because it is racially unfair.

Another good one is Hooters(a chain known for waitresses with skimpy outfits and large breasts) refusing to hire male waiters. They paid out $3.75million to settle the lawsuit and had to agree to hire more males for other roles. More recently, one location even got sued a second time for preferring white women, and settled for $250,000. Pretty sure that could be a business decision, depending on area, since their model depends on perception of attractiveness.

Depends what their role is as executive. Our VP isnt the most computer savvy, but he knows the consumer needs our products are made for, a skillset the devs might not have.

1-You're not a waitress taking the order, so this is irrelevant.
2-The expectation that you speak the host countries language isnt outlandish. I dont go to China demanding to be served in English. Nor do I do the same in Japan, nor any other country that doesnt have English as an official language.
2A-if you're gonna run a restaurant where people can only speak a language that the majority of people dont speak, I dont think your restaurant is gonna fare very well.

When I went to resorts in Cuba and Mexico, not all of the staff could speak English. I know the cleaners were bad at it, no idea about the cooks since I never interacted with them. But the front staff, the bartender, the waiter, the hype crew, they all spoke decent English, because the resort wants to attract clients, and part of that is the customer service experience. I'm not gonna go back to a resort where the front desk can only say "no habla ingles". Of course, when I left the resort, I didnt flip my ***when I encountered people who dont speak English either.
