Thus, once committed to FFXI, forever a loyal vassal. Western (and post 2000s) people generally are less committed to about anything. Everything bores them, everything is not satisfying enough, etc. There's a surprising amount of recorded Ballista content on YouTube. I think Asura does weekly(ish) bouts for fun, including both Japanese and English-speaking players, and I've seen other servers do it as well.
Ballista is a lot of fun. I like how it's not just about killing one another and feels like a proper sport. It seems like there's a ton of strategy that even I didn't know about, though. Of course, these days my "PvP anxiety" (or so I call it) would see to it that I never play it again, but I did have fun the one time I did it.
