So, an update from Texas. Monday morning at 1:30 AM, our house lost power. It was snowing outside, and temperatures were below freezing. We woke up and the room temperature was 55. We bundled up, used our cars to stay warm, and were told the power would be back Tuesday. Evacuation was impossible due to an icestorm that froze the roads over. Thursday morning at 845 AM, the power came back for the first time. The room temperature was 42 in the house. Its been about 45 minutes of power, we don't know how long it will last, but our space heaters are on full blast, we boiled some water, heated up some food, and are for now, okay.

Its been absolutely horrible for three days. I'm glad our Senator was able to evacuate his family to Cancun, and our governor was able to go on Fox News and blame the nonexistent Green New Deal. When Texans finally recover from this ordeal, there is going to be hell to pay.

That sounds awful. We put up with a lot of cold where I'm from, but we also have the equipment to deal with it.

In October 2019 we were hit with an unprecedented snowstorm. Our infrastructure and equipment are designed for seething cold, not massive snow loads (-40 degrees tends to inhibit precipitation) and we suffered some $20M in damage in just our small city alone. They literally have to rewrite our climate info in the National Building Code of Canada. And I know all about snow loading in my profession >_<

Sorry to say but nothing will change.

One wishes it would and one will always be disappointed.

I'm about to conclude a short (~12 hours total) D&D campaign this weekend using Roll20. I have it set up so when the party awakens the final boss it'll come up with a Legend of Zelda-style boss scrawl (complete with Hylian Sans font) that reads:

Well, we have had power for a good 8 hours now. Our water situation is still a little messy, but we have that too. The pressure is low, but it works. A lot of people don't have water at the moment, so we lucked out there. Our house is back up to 70 degrees, and we have eaten, as well as cooked enough food to last us through the weekend easily. So, maybe the worst of it is over.

Hey, if you clicked on a youtube video called Eunice coffee chat and it's a sweet old lady filming a video chat as she sips coffee and after a few minutes a little blood starts coming out of her mouth and she reaches up and pulls out two teeth and sits them on the table, blood pouring out of her mouth, she washes it down with a sip of coffee then reaches into her mug to retrieve a tooth which she sits by the others. She looks into the camera and says "It-it's here...I don't want you to worry about me...but it's here." then the camera loses focus and the video ends. What would you do?
