One of my fave speedrunners was permabanned from GDQ for ***that took place away from the event, at an Air B&B he and a friend was staying at.
Basically he had medical marijuana edibles because he's had cancer twice and his buddy started having an anxiety attack so he shared a bit. They go to the event and the edible wears off, the buddy has an anxiety attack again and someone calls 911. GDQ assume the worst when police ask for Bubbles to ask what exactly was given. No one was arrested, charged, nor hurt. GDQ ejects Bubbles and ignores him till days before submissions open for SGDQ.
White knights seem to assume that the buddy's anxiety attack was in reaction to "having a bad trip" on the THC because they've probably never had marijuana or an anxiety attack.
Now, I'm not saying what he did was legal or that it wasn't shady, but it took place off of event grounds. He probably should have, at the least, gotten a stern warning and at the most been banned for one event.
I think this was what finally killed GDQ for me. AGDQ 2018 wasn't hardly talked about, had no Super Metroid, had sub-only chat, had a weak line-up, etc. I mean, Proth usually makes a thread for every GDQ and didn't even bother and the only time I think I saw him even mention AGDQ 2018 was to point out issues.
I think the magic is dead.
