It's too early in the morning for me to be up.

Unless you work third shift or you're way the hell out in the boonies of BC, it's time for responsible folk to be up and doin' things!

Drink your coffee and be a productive member of society already.
I'm way out in the boonies of Ontario.
And I've worked third shift before. Never needed coffee, and I hate the taste of it.

I love reading about the storylines in comics, but I hate reading comics themselves. I have never found the artwork of American comics to be appealing and I always felt like the cost to content ratio was way too far off to be worthwhile.

A split between heroes based on whether you should use psychic knowledge of the future to try and prevent future crimes from happening or not. I REALLY dig that.

I'm not. It was so... blasé. If that's their best offering for the album, it'll be even more vanilla than St. Anger.

St. Anger wasn't Vanilla. Vanilla is tasty, just nothing special. Comforting. Can't go wrong.

St. Anger was like...plain yogurt with a little mold growing on the top. Not bad if you scrape off the bad part, but still sort of lacking.

I enjoyed the new release, but hey. I've learned to run with whatever direction the boys decide to take. They want to branch out into weird art stuff? Gauge them on that. Go back to thrash? Sure, why not!

I liked the direction they were going in with Load and Reload. The songs were more melodic, but they were still raw and fueled by emotion. The songs were complicated and were reaching new heights of nuance.

Then the fanboys whined and Metallica had a relapse (St. Anger). Lars replaced his drum machine with a lead pipe and Kirk decided he'd kick back and take it real easy that whole album. Since then, they haven't been able to really achieve greatness (well, my opinion, anyway).

I'll give it a listen in November, but right now I'm still not convinced.

You're not really alone in your assessment. Most of the musician friends I have -- including the one who actually earns his living as a recording artist -- basically treat Metallica like a joke anymore. I'm just a fanboy at this point, I guess...nostalgia driving me as much as anything.

But who the *** cares? I enjoy it.

That's what it boils down to. I wish I could say the same, but St. Anger cut me pretty deep. I remember when I bought it. I put it in my car and gave it a listen. Must've been about 3-4 songs in before I took it out of the player and tossed it out the window.

But hey, if you enjoy it, *** it, man. Live it up. As for me, I just move on. Mastodon is my Metallica, now.

That's what gets me. I don't mind that they enjoy experimenting, but just once, I'd like to see a really old-school, pure thrash album come out as a love letter to people who've stuck out through the experiments even if they don't wholly agree with it.
Sounds like you need more Slayer in your life.
