Usually handles it very well since it's the same 1:1.77 aspect ratio that's native, if you go 3840 x 2160. Not sure about others.
but keeping things 1080 really works well too, unless you're doing some theatrical gaming and using it like a tv etc but the freedom multitasking really speeds things up. Each window is about 1080p (give or take since I refuse to go borderless on some) and you still have plenty of room. Just make sure you go large enough though; the 28" monitor at 4k I initially tried was too small to handle the higher resolution. This one is 40" and perfect without having to sit too close or squint.
