If a thread's at the end of its useful lifespan anyway, or there's no value in it going forward, then it gets locked. It all boils down to judgment calls, but honestly, I don't lock that many threads (maybe a dozen, ever). You either have some really shitty timing, or you've got a really bad case of recall bias.
