They did want to add airships but nothing confirmed as of now. Pretty sure that's why they're talking to the Just Cause 3 team, help them with flying

Going by the history of the series, you still have to traverse through the entire map (or a good portion of it) before you have access to an airship that's controllable.

It would take hours just to go from one town to another!

Oh, I'm not saying it won't be fun, just exhausting. Most of the fun of open area world maps is the exploration.

I've always wanted a game where it feels like you're having to traverse great distance to get from place to place.

In Ultima Online, it took no more than 5 minutes of running on foot to get from one town to another.

That's why I was impressed when I first started playing FFXI that it took about 20+ minutes on Chocobo to get from Bastok to San d'oria.

If it took hours to get from place to place, that'd be awesome. I'm not saying I'd want to make the trek every time, but it gives a lot of depth to the game if the world seems that huge.

That's very cool.

However, as large as that is, I hope they can fill it with enough content so it doesn't seem too spread out.

The main issue I find with open world games is just that, and they tend to rely heavily on fetch missions to take advantage of the world they created.

damn, that's a lot.

Nearly 500k acres....

A little more than half the size of Rhode Island though lol. That's pretty big for a game.
