looks like the monitor is not getting enough juice or not properly plugged in to source signal

either it is getting less power or the power management part is borking.

overheating maybe?
ghost?

edit:
have you tried plugging it to another source and replicate the issue? (to rule out source signal error)

but pretty much shows symptoms of monitor dying.

if you can't discuss something without trying to shoo people away, best to just not mention it.
No we did discuss it, bored with it now, move on.
If you want to move on, either stop talking about it or stop bringing it up. My point still stands that you can't just try to shoo people away when you're done and expect it to work.

On another topic, you any good with monitor *** senor? I tried googling this and found no results hmmm...

it's a very odd flickering on a acer 4k UHD monitor that slowly takes over the whole screen in distortion and
-power has not changed
-hardware has not changed
-software has not changed
- it happens on the monitor's bios as well, so I know it's not my displayport cable

move on.

As for the monitor: sounds like it's going bad, assuming you don't have the skills to do circuit repair, and unless it's in warranty either find a repairman/woman or get it replaced.

Then again it is an Acer product...

The flickering on 4K monitors seems to be a known issue. It sounds like it's a refresh rate conflict between your graphics card and your monitor. There's supposedly a fix that's been put out by nVidia and AMD, but it hasn't worked for everyone.

It seems the only thing you can do is either update your graphics card firmware and hope for the best, or lower your refresh rate to 30Hz.

I'd bet that some old caps were put in due to poor QC in their Chinese factory. Electrolytic caps have a shelf life after all.

I mean it's Acer, I'd probably put even Vizio above them...

the way I see it.
20% videocard error
5% Overheating
75% internal chipset (on monitor)

if you have a spare monitor, try that out and stress test it.

if you have a spare computer, try it with the monitor in question and stress test it.

(assuming it is not a config error)

If dropping the refresh rate doesn't help, the only other thing I can imagine is signal interference from the light you have behind the monitor.

I was thinking it could be interference, but on a modern monitor and in a rather empty room I found it to be rather unlikely.

lamp would not make that much of an interference, but rather make things (fonts, lines) fuzzier at worst

It's interesting. People tend to think of everything we build as artificial, but we're pretty much starting to create life. Robots that can self-assemble/repair, analyze the environment and act on their own based on their data, robots that work as a hivemind to achieve their goals, computers that can learn and study on their own, etc.

It's extremely fascinating not only from an engineering perspective, but philosophical as well. Puts humanity as well in a different perspective.

Indeed.

If you could digitize your brain and "live forever" as a computer mind, would you? Would you want to be isolated, or free to roam?

Sure, it's a great way to "exist on standby" until we can make new organic bodies entirely and at that time I could just have my digital mind installed into the physical realm once again.

Could you explain what you mean by isolated or free to roam?
