I keep thinking about how depressing the Trix Rabbit is. It is like an analogy for life.
All the rabbit wants is the one thing-- the cereal. He always comes so close to getting it only to have it ripped away, then told "It's not for you." To add insult to injury, he is then thrown a smelly bag of carrots, or all the things he hates more than anything else in the world-- yet are socially acceptable for him. He must then choke down the bland and disgusting carrots to sustain his own wretched existence while watching the rest of the world enjoy all of the things he can't ever have.
The carrots are like the hours spent working humiliating low wage jobs, watching the clock and being unable to leave in order to make a paycheck. The carrots are socially acceptable male behavior like drinking beers and watching football between shifts at said humiliating job.
The cereal represents feeling loved and/or wanted and intimate relationships-- things men are considered creepy or weird expressing desire for, or, you know, pigs. Things like computer games and anime are non-productive and can be seen as non-masculine and shameful.
"Don't kill yourself" they will tell you. "There are plenty of good things in life to counter the bad"... they're just not for you. By the way, here is your stinking *** bag of carrots.
