There was a study done by an independent organization that Canada has now officially passed the US for their average citizens quality of life, using metrics like average income and the price of goods and services in that area.
They also get free healthcare, which if I had, might have made my 20's a lot better. I'd trade places with a Canadian any day. I happen to like the snow and mountains both and have you seen Vancouver Island? Motherfuckin gorgeous.
To add insult to injury for the US, Canada is also far further along in civil rights.
I tease Josi about Canada b/c I like Josi. But I think most US people make fun of Canada because they're jelly.
Yeah it's a great place to live but People don't talk about the downsides as much.
-since the government pays to keep all walk in clinics and hospitals free, everyone is seen on urgency basis. Meaning if you need a non life threatening MRI for example the waiting list can be months in some poorer or higher population provinces.
-aboriginal youth on reserves don't have adequate systems in place for broken homes or meeting their needs if the parents default. So you'd see a random motel booked full in a city of just the provincial government putting ~15 year old crees up for weeks because they have no place to go etc, with no support in place for them at all to get their lives back on track.
-canada throws millions and millions at the indigenous peoples here since they essentially took our land for pennies. But throwing money at people and throwing them into a society they just got introduced to doesn't solve anything. Corruption with the respective Chiefs is rampant because the government of Canada can't just force accountability/transparency on us and indigenous people don't just naturally know how to manage a sophisticated society and culture from scratch to flourish in 2015.
Imagine if you took a group of people from some country across the world that was just a bunch of tribes and gave them billions of dollars and expected them to just know how to create a perfect country overnight.
