A blown transformer or capacitor (not sure which) isn't something that would break during shipping.

It shouldn't be too hard replace, if you remember where all the plugs are now. You will have to remove some screws that hold it place. I have my service tag from when I ordered it , warranty is not valid any more but it *should* show what i have in it right?
Yeah you should be fine with a 500 or 550 watt power supply then.

If you're going to upgrade, I'd think about getting a new video card and some more RAM..
TO be honest- I really never use it - I use my laptop for gaming/everyday/anything purposes and the desktop was to be for my niece to game on =D Cuz im the awesome auntie ;)
I guess im wondering do I need a cooling fan (or is that the same thing) or whatever to avoid a crash on the system or you think this is an isolated incident and she would be ok to play barbies - r- us or MLP online I'll let Slip handle that, as I have never played those games :P
