So much this. I mean, VII and VIII were good. VIII is even one of my favorites. But since IX there really hasn't been a break from it being animu. And in some ways IX was a bit animesh. So idk. I wonder if V and VI they would have chosen anime. :/ FF1 was definitely medevil. It gets hard to tell when it's just style and goes completely over though in the series. I wish they'd pull back on that though... while I did like both Berserk and Record of Lodoss War... usually Fantasy and Anime don't agree with each other too well imho.
D's made it very clear to me that every final fantasy I've shown him, since like V or VI, is all anime.

I ignore him to save my memories of the games ;<

The dialogue is probably similar to anime/manga in the same genre but the art isn't, really.

There always was western / medieval influences in Final Fantasy, that's what made it special.

and then it became SE's Final Fantasy.

I have Dragon Quest 8 and while I'm sure it's a great game I just can't play a silent protagonist game where the combat is so slow. I greatly enjoyed it in Dragon Age 1 but I couldn't play more than a few hours of 8.

I think it worked for me in Dragon Age because your actions actually matter but in a JRPG you play as another person, you're not the character yourself. You're merely an onlooker that does the combat bits instead of choosing how the story will progress.

I didn't like the super slow combat. You can have it a bit faster even if it's turn based, just look at FFX. What you saw on the screen during a fight was the mobs and the actions you could take and then when you're executing them you see the characters - it just felt so much slower than any FF turn based game.
