Explanation: VRC7 is a cartridge chip developed for Konami in 1989 by Yamaha. It contains a 6 channel FM synthesizer chip along with the normal cartridge hardware (memory switching circuits and such) and that's good enough to mimic the Mega Drive sound as you can see on the youtube video.

 That song is a personal favorite of mine. P.S.: These are meant to be played as .NSF files (on Winamp, for example) but I took the trouble of "developing" some hardware + software based on existing work to see this running on the real thing:

Just as a curiosity, this is what the Dreamcast boot up screen was supposed to be like, originally:
 They kept it on the developer's kit boot up ROM. And off to bed I am. That reminds me, I need to hunt down some dreamcast roms.
I love the fact Mari's desk is almost as cluttered as mine.
