I'm lucky in just one respect: No one else around here uses this service, so I'm very rarely ever under 45mbps. so that's nice I guess. if nice is measured in sads, I'd give it 6 sads out of 10.
I use a nice ASUS router, but it doesn't matter much since I basically never use wireless except for my PS3 since I was too lazy to run a second cable over after I plugged the original one into the PS4

Do you ever utilize a service like PS3 Media server? I can't get mine to work well on wireless so I bought one of these:
It's working but I haven't tested out to see if it fixed my streaming issue or not. I didn't see any performance issues on my VM that I am running the service on in the logs, so the wireless is the only thing I could think of, and I can't really easily put in a cable long enough to run to the bedroom from my desk, at least not safely with my child running around, or that wouldn't look like ***, and I can't pop holes in the wall, unfortunately.
nah, I use my One (Airstream) to stream media through my PC to my TV since I was able to pick up a smart TV on the cheap (under $200 for a 1080p 30", has some backlight bleed on black screens but otherwise pretty nice for the price).

Oh I'm not a fan of "smart tvs" and would never get a One.
My friend keeps hounding me because I was bitching about ps3 media server as I was having issues with it even showing the files (resolved that, somehow, needed a few more reboots, couldn't get the thing configured in my linux vm (no gui, and I'm still learning linux so I have no idea how to manually install a DE and get a display to show as it somehow doesn't recognize one...)so had to use Windows...) I'll probably test it later, just trying to think of what shows were lagging like hell.
I would love to get 10mbps. 1.8mbit here for ~$80 a month. Fastest you can get at my house and it's DSL. Only other options are dial up or satellite... and *** that.
The chances of that happening are like almost zero. We have DirecTV and lose the signal so much either due to heat, rain, or *insert other weather here*.

oh I had Dish for years and we'd rarely lose the signal, either it would have to be one hell of a rain storm or one hell of a snow storm, I think the last time it went out was 09' ish.
either you don't have a decent satellite in your area, or your transponder signal is weak, we tweaked the hell out of ours for a long time to get it to align the best, and I think it even hits a second one to get HD.
Our receivers are old. Like only has composite connectors and a coaxial. Parents don't want to upgrade them. Also the chance of very few or shitty satellites are probably high too. Only ever find one signal and it's like in the 80s.

I would upgrade them but no real point for me.
ah fair enough, I imagine newer receivers/firmware probably helps.
You set it on the routers/switches? I'll be honest, I'm not fully aware of what settings would have to be done for all of that, I've barely grazed over cisco stuff.

Yeah, I set it on our main router that all switches (two of them) are connected to. It's not too much different from normal qos. Just a little more robust.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
