Horrible
By Vyrerus 2014-03-04 00:00:37
don't get anything for our purchase other than a game we can do something with our friends Is this a bad thing though, you say it like it doesn't mean much... Don't get me wrong I like getting drops as much of the next person but it's not why I play MMOs, I play MMOs for the people. Over the years in XI I met many fun and interesting people, if I had never played XI I would never have been to this site which had the same results, XIV is no different. In my experiences with these people I've learned a lot and even grown as a person, it was getting to know a few people from this site along with the general acceptance that made me able to accept that I am bisexual rather than trying to deny it to myself and making myself miserable. Having to lead my coil group definitely banged on the walls of my comfort zone (still does a little bit to be honest) but it's something I've become more comfortable with over the last couple months and I like to think I haven't done a terrible job of it. You could argue that these are things I could have learned or grown to in RL but I didn't, and I doubt I ever would have.
Working a night shift I don't get to see people much in real life any more so the opportunity to do anything with a group of friends is precious to me. To me the rewards of a MMO aren't what comes out of a chest at the end of a dungeon, it's the friendships and bonds you form along the way. I celebrate when one of my team mates gets something they need/want just as much as when I get something and if you need a practical view point the better geared your friends/team is the better off you are as well. There are ups and downs sure, but in all the years of XI/XIV there is only one thing I regret about it and even that is people related not about the game itself.
Maybe I'm just doing it wrong but that's how I feel on it. That isn't the point, you can play any game with your friends, you're not limited to a single game. I'm not talking about me not having fun with my friends, I'm talking about the game itself. We're not no, and we don't necessarily. Drac and I both played Neverwinter a bit although he progressed much faster than me so didn't get to play directly together. I also played The Old republic with Iro Huro and a couple others, White knight Chronicles a bit with Quiz Val and Narshee. People tended to trail off quickly though and as it stands XIV is simply the game that has held the biggest concentration of people I know. It is the largest concentration of players atm, but I can't see anything positive. The only effort that SE put into the game was the story. They hyped the game up telling us about how they sacrificed everything to remake this game, giving it a second chance and what it deserves.
The game has... the main story, side quests, fate to level, dungeons to level, crafting and hobbies to spend your time while you are looking for a group, and after you're done with the story and finally reach level 50 you have..... tomes to get darklight gear, and myth to get myth gear, relic weapon quest... which involve HM primals... and coil. Now you have CT... which is horrible. *And now EX primals~ with the new weapons.
I can't find anything positive. I love doing stuff with friends, it's the only thing I even do in the game, but I can't see anything good about the game itself. I constantly think, how much fun it would be playing something actually fun and fair with my friends, but any MMO I explore exploit these same mechanics that keep these games going for years.
I'm just sick of it, I'm tired of not seeing a system in place that is fair. You sign up for an event, you are challenged by the tasks you have to overcome, and if you complete the tasks your team gets a reward. But when the reward pool has 40-50 items in it...and you can only complete it once a week........ how is that fair.
Every time I take part in it I feel cheated, every time I take part in the event I feel tricked into their evil plan. Each update that is released they barely add any playable content, and the latest thing they added was crystal tower and that isn't fun.
The only thing that keeps the game "fun" is the friends you play it with. Should that make a game fun? Is that fair to give the game that credit for your efforts of trying to look on the brighter side of things? These companies shouldn't be credited with the fun you're having with your friends, but they take the credit for the reviews they receive and the applause they get.
I don't think it's too much to ask for a fair system, and my friends are the only ones keeping me going every week. Not to uhh, insult you here Kali, but from what I see you get on, do coil, and then leave.
The game does get boring, it does lack content. The coil system is currently kinda lame. It has plenty of faults. It is what you make it though, and it is a common ground with which to mingle and share experiences.
It's a hang out for nerds/fantasy enthusiasts etc. We'd rather spend our time slaying dragons, but we also like people enough that we want to slay dragons together. You can share any activity with friends, it's true, but then they're already your friends, so you're probably going to enjoy even just shooting the breeze with them or receiving a greeting and warm regards. I've made some new friends and become better friends with a great deal more people in XIV than I ever thought I would. I'll happily say thanks to Enix for making an enjoyable enough game that my friends and other cool people like to play. It's a way to interact and keep in touch.
I mean, don't you remember your excitement when it was being released? You were almost as head over heels for it as you are for Dark Souls 2 atm. You said you wanted to digest the game, breathe it all in, take it in stride, but then before anyone else(that I know) you had cut it to the quick. Gotten to endgame. By the time(October) I came back to Excalibur, at your behest, you were already sick of it.
I mean, your excitement rubbed off on me. I wasn't even going to play XIV. I guess it hasn't been what you expected; it wasn't what I expected either. There's not some clever trick to it though. You can enjoy it for what it is, instead of lamenting what you think it should be. You're paying for it regardless, might as well enjoy it. Don't say you can't, because you know that you haven't been wanting to enjoy it for what it has to offer. You come, you push progress, either get your progress and leave or don't get it and then leave.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just bitter cause I don't see you on as much as I would like. Then again, I don't have much time these days anyway...
I wish I was someone who could make it fun for you.
Spoilered for length and angst.

I was pretty surprised that I found it because I am playing solo on normal atm with 0 magic find.
I guess difficulty doesn't have an effect on item drops until expansion comes out for the level 70 stuff in the slider.
EDIT - Also Proth, you play BL2 as well correct? Is it just me or do the prisoners souls you save in the improsoned angel quest in act 1 sound a lot like Mal in BL2?

Spoilered for length and angst. I work 40-50 hours a week, when I have free time I spend it on the game or at least the forum. When I do play I'll spend the time doing coil practicing T5, because that and EX primals are the difficult challenges the game has to offer. If I'm not doing coil I'm helping friends with primals, and if I'm not helping them do primals I get together with friends and do something random like Ifrit HM in swimming gear.
I try to make the most of the game but it's difficult Vyre, especially when so much negativity overwhelms me at times.

Legendaries drop pretty often now in general. I get about 1 every hour or so. Not actually sure if Magic Find exists anymore outside of shrine buffs, if it does it's extremely rare. Drop rates are only enhanced in T1~T10 i think, it'll say by how much when you increase the slider. Right now Skeleton King drops a legendary 100% of the time too, but they'll be making Diablo do that instead in an upcoming patch.
I CAN'T WAIT TO BECOME HUMAN. I'LL TAKE SHOWERS AND TIP WAITERS AND GET BRUISES AND FOLD CLOTHS. I BET I'M MALFUNCTIONING LIKE THE DICKENS.

Not sure, probably though. I keep getting crusader sheilds from skele king so I said *** it, waiting for diablo so at least I can lol at how he pronounces "terror" while I get crusader shields.
Think all bosses have heightened chances in general, which is nice. Makes playing through the whole scenario a nice alternative to farming basements in act 1.

I only eat chicken and turkey as far as birds go. Ducks are good too. I feel like all of these birds around the food will bring the bird flu to Eorzea.

Just because other MMOs do it, and just because they did it with XI, doesn't make it right. I don't care if everyone else does it, SE just contributes to the problem because they want the most money for the content they release, even if nothing comes out for 6-10 months.
Not reading several pages because I just woke up, but whats the problem here? Curiosity killed the cat, as they say.

hey jet~
picked up a linksys ac1200. so far no problems. 5/5 bar connection atm. nice, I've just had this habbit of sticking with intel, due to I do play with esxi and xenserver and the closer to industry standard chipsets the better when it comes to that.

Can't you get some electrical work with your knowledge of electronics?
Really today, unless it's manufacturing, most of the knowledgeable electronic people are into old school electronics, which I am more interested in but there's no money in repairing tubed amplifiers or even arcade equipment.
The two people I come across that fit this category is someone that used to fix old appliances, tube equipment, race cars and trouble shoot electrical problems, the other... someone's relative that disable Russian Nukes to convert to other positive world applications for over 20 years.
My own side business deals more on complete components for arcades, pinball machines and jukeboxes. I will not finder board solder components due to legal issues if it catches fire due to high voltages. I will get all pieces for a "super gun" but will not make one to sell unless it's a plug and play.
Shouldn't be more of a legal issue than it already is if you use the same, or better parts.
Do you have insurance for that sort of thing?
and that sucks overall, I plan to get into design here at home, but I need to improve my skills and do a crapton of research on parts.
I'd like to have my BS done as well, just to get it under my belt, but I keep putting off finishing what I need to transfer to ODU.

Random thought:
WTF is the point of High Level Dungeon Roulette?
You want Phil tomes? Main Scenario
You want Myth tomes? Join in progress CT (you get 50 and it'll take at most 10 mins to get into one at least on my data center)
The gil isn't too great and the drops suck compared to everything else.
I haven't done a High Level Dungeon Roulette since the 2nd day it came out. It's not worth the 30min lockout if you get a dungeon you personally hate.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
