*sigh*... it's like no one understands what I'm even saying today. dropping it. I know what you mean :( and while I haven't done that content as long as you I get where you are coming from, since you can only do it weekly you might even see the same drops over and over again >_> that hasn't happened much... but not getting the items you want from something you do weekly is very annoying :/

Minefield's gaming experiences seem much more interesting than my own. I know of a way to spice up your gaming experience...

don't get anything for our purchase other than a game we can do something with our friends Is this a bad thing though, you say it like it doesn't mean much... Don't get me wrong I like getting drops as much of the next person but it's not why I play MMOs, I play MMOs for the people. Over the years in XI I met many fun and interesting people, if I had never played XI I would never have been to this site which had the same results, XIV is no different. In my experiences with these people I've learned a lot and even grown as a person, it was getting to know a few people from this site along with the general acceptance that made me able to accept that I am bisexual rather than trying to deny it to myself and making myself miserable. Having to lead my coil group definitely banged on the walls of my comfort zone (still does a little bit to be honest) but it's something I've become more comfortable with over the last couple months and I like to think I haven't done a terrible job of it. You could argue that these are things I could have learned or grown to in RL but I didn't, and I doubt I ever would have.
Working a night shift I don't get to see people much in real life any more so the opportunity to do anything with a group of friends is precious to me. To me the rewards of a MMO aren't what comes out of a chest at the end of a dungeon, it's the friendships and bonds you form along the way. I celebrate when one of my team mates gets something they need/want just as much as when I get something and if you need a practical view point the better geared your friends/team is the better off you are as well. There are ups and downs sure, but in all the years of XI/XIV there is only one thing I regret about it and even that is people related not about the game itself.
Maybe I'm just doing it wrong but that's how I feel on it. That isn't the point, you can play any game with your friends, you're not limited to a single game. I'm not talking about me not having fun with my friends, I'm talking about the game itself. We're not no, and we don't necessarily. Drac and I both played Neverwinter a bit although he progressed much faster than me so didn't get to play directly together. I also played The Old republic with Iro Huro and a couple others, White knight Chronicles a bit with Quiz Val and Narshee. People tended to trail off quickly though and as it stands XIV is simply the game that has held the biggest concentration of people I know. It is the largest concentration of players atm, but I can't see anything positive. The only effort that SE put into the game was the story. They hyped the game up telling us about how they sacrificed everything to remake this game, giving it a second chance and what it deserves.
The game has... the main story, side quests, fate to level, dungeons to level, crafting and hobbies to spend your time while you are looking for a group, and after you're done with the story and finally reach level 50 you have..... tomes to get darklight gear, and myth to get myth gear, relic weapon quest... which involve HM primals... and coil. Now you have CT... which is horrible. *And now EX primals~ with the new weapons.
I can't find anything positive. I love doing stuff with friends, it's the only thing I even do in the game, but I can't see anything good about the game itself. I constantly think, how much fun it would be playing something actually fun and fair with my friends, but any MMO I explore exploit these same mechanics that keep these games going for years.
I'm just sick of it, I'm tired of not seeing a system in place that is fair. You sign up for an event, you are challenged by the tasks you have to overcome, and if you complete the tasks your team gets a reward. But when the reward pool has 40-50 items in it...and you can only complete it once a week........ how is that fair.
Every time I take part in it I feel cheated, every time I take part in the event I feel tricked into their evil plan. Each update that is released they barely add any playable content, and the latest thing they added was crystal tower and that isn't fun.
The only thing that keeps the game "fun" is the friends you play it with. Should that make a game fun? Is that fair to give the game that credit for your efforts of trying to look on the brighter side of things? These companies shouldn't be credited with the fun you're having with your friends, but they take the credit for the reviews they receive and the applause they get.
I don't think it's too much to ask for a fair system, and my friends are the only ones keeping me going every week.

I actually know quite how you feel Kalila. Thats part of the reason I've decided to take a break from XIV for the month and went back to XI. It's just endless dungeon grinding once you hit 50 and complete the storylines, and thats just not nearly as fun. Will see what the next update does for it, but I have a feeling its going to be alternating back and forth. Something I didn't think I would be doing after quitting XI for the 3rd (or 4th time, heck if I know anymore).

While I get what you mean...
The thing is, the social aspect and the time sink is sorta the entire drawing point for MMOs. They're designed with longevity in mind, not immediate gratification.
You have to be something of a masochist to truly enjoy most/all aspects of an MMO.
As it is, the game is still very very young. Lack of diverse content is to be expected.

I hate random drop systems too (and just how end game is organized in general in 14) but obsessing over best in slot gear like that will drive anyone nuts. It really isn't worth the frustration especially considering the minimal differences between equally leveled gear.

Thats all any MMO is though, FFXI was no different, nor are any of the other MMOs I've played... The only thing really unique about how XI was set up (that I know of) was that quests are strictly plot lines not a part of the leveling system... I wasn't around for it but unless I'm missing something the only thing to do in it for the first year was grind to 50 > camp a few NMs.

The thing is, the social aspect and the time sink is sorta the entire drawing point for MMOs. They're designed with longevity in mind, not immediate gratification. No, that's what companies have found that customers will keep playing for while paying a subscription every month.
They know that they can get players to do this content for x amount of weeks before they need to release something new. They predict this before it is even released. MMOs are a science of tricking customers enticing them to stay with them and not someone else.
MMOs are the result of how far customers will willingly be neglected and ignored for the sake of a shiny.
No gamer goes, "I want to play a game that screws me over with lack of content for 6 months, and only gives me the option of doing the same content over and over once a week in hopes for a shiny that will mean nothing in the next update when something newer, more powerful, and more difficult rare to obtain." That isn't a drawing point, that is the result of these companies pushing the limits of the dollar earned per content released.
Yet they do it, because it's an option they have where they can play a game with their friends.
I don't understand why we can't have fair systems in place. Wouldn't that only increase our enjoyment with friends? They might actually have to do something and create more content, but that's what their job is, creating content. Yet we barely see anything new come from them.
I know the game is brand new and young, but I was expecting them to expand it and grow and barely anything has changed.

MMOs also save me a good chunk of money... the idea of a subscription fee makes it sound expensive but when I think of how much I would have spent on entertainment over the years otherwise if I didn't have the one go to I'm not sure I'd have an apartment just yet.
Also Yomi might not know what she has done...

You're not getting it because the companies want to make money and this is what works for them. It's not changing for a long time.

I would rather a game get my money by drawing out playability with additional content and low drop rates on rewards I want than to

Be like me and my friends kali. See new mmo. Try beta, if like, buy it max the character under a month. If still like continue to play. Otherwise its just an RPG with real people running around. Everything in moderation ~ except league and yoruichi

You could also just not buy the DLC though, equipment DLC is always about aesthetics or as a crutch.
Also:
IFLS said: Taonius borealis is a type of glass squid that lives in the temperate and boreal waters of the North Pacific. Not a lot is known about these goofy looking guys, but it can grow to be 50 cm long and its fantastic hairdo is actually the tentacles located right above its relatively large eyes.

Maybe if you find yourself feeling cheated by the quantity of the content or the rate at which you are getting rewards, you should change the pace at which you are playing? I'm not one to rush through content, coil has been available since the beginning, yet I've been stuck on a single item for over 4 months now. I still have yet to do some things but I save them to do with friends and not rush through it all day of release.
Having other games to play when you're in the mood to play them is good for you, but that doesn't excuse SE for what they are doing, again, to 14.
Just because other MMOs do it, and just because they did it with XI, doesn't make it right. I don't care if everyone else does it, SE just contributes to the problem because they want the most money for the content they release, even if nothing comes out for 6-10 months.

Minefield's gaming experiences seem much more interesting than my own. Playing any game in vanilla currently just isn't my style. Since modding has touched me in even the darkest of places, I've grown to be addicted to it. As of right now, I forget what half the stuff sounds/looks like on L4D/Skyrim, so many mods for quality of life gaming improvement.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
