Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
By Artemicion 2014-01-27 16:27:49
So I decided to get my little brother a PS3 for his 10th birthday.
I figure he can finally break out of his Nintendo training wheels for a change even though he tends to *** around in games more so than engage in them, but he's learning quickly and becoming a better gamer as a whole, especially in temperament and patience. Make him play Dark Souls. Then laugh at him.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!--ahem, but no, I am not that cruel. Perhaps out of practice, but not that cruel. God forbid I reemerge his buried hatchet of rage quitting tendencies. I'm already proud of him for having significantly more patience.

I'm in a really awkward position here because all of the games I reaaaaally enjoyed on PS3 are games that are a bit above a 10 year old's age range.
The only game I've bought recently for my PS3 is the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD collection. Totally worth it.

Oooh, I almost had completely forgotten about the relatively youngin friendly exclusive IPs for PS3 like Sly Cooper, Jax and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank. Those are pretty damned fun if my memory serves me right.

Jak and Daxter HD collection is pretty swish. Just don't try to play it on VIta, for the love of god.

Here I'll rephrase. Although he's turning 10, he's at a point in life where I'm pretty comfortable with a general level of violence given within video games, and movies/tv for that matter. Obviously I'm going to avoid gratuitous sexual elements, and violence that heavily emphasizes on the human variety without purpose, but he knows as well as I do what borders there are within fun and games and those in reality.
To put into perspective, I'm pretty much parallel with Quentin Tarantino in this mini interview.

Luckily he's not quite THAT shallow, but I do somewhat worry that the really old school 2D games from the NES/SNES era might shy him away to some classics, but considering he absolutely LOVED Super Mario RPG: LotSS, A Link to the Past, Paper Mario, and Earthbound, I'm not too worried with the playstation era of games.

It was like that in the original too :<
Sadly that's one optimization they overlooked.

It's funny, the best value per dollar lies within the Last of Us pack with a 250GB hard drive, so that's included regardless of my position. He loves the zombie genre and has totally eaten up The Walking Dead and whatnot, but this will definitely put a nice solid dose of ugly reality within such a scenario for him, all while being a great game to boot.

Here's my Gamefly list for the past year and a half or so:
Saint's Row IV
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Killer is Dead
Dynasty Warriors 8
Grand Theft Auto V
Metro: Last Light
Tomb Raider
Persona 4 Arena
Super Street Fighter IV
The Last of Us
Bioshock Infinite
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Dead Space 3
Far Cry 3
Metal Gear Rising
Dishonored
Devil May Cry
Darksiders 2
Resident Evil 6
By Artemicion 2014-01-27 16:58:54
Would look into adding Tomb Raider, Bioshock, Castlevania, Dishonored, MGR, and Darksiders to my list of candidates.
I made a pretty sweet deal for him which he has yet to take totally seriously: Beat a game, get a game. Of course it has to be something that has the possibility of being beaten. MMOs and sandboxes don't quite count.
Whoops, totally forgot Minecraft has the Enderdragon. Have fun with that one bro.

Ent, you'd be proud of me. Finally got around to listening to some OC remixes without all the reluctance from before.
Voices of the Lifesteam is stupendous. Never expected that level of professionalism and production within something that is essentially fan made.

Terraria was a fun game.
By Artemicion 2014-01-27 17:05:07
Yeah, he already plays that and Minecraft on my folks' subpar PC, and obsesses over the two. Will be nice to have it on his own console that can run it comfortably, despite lacking mods. Not like he could really utilize them on my parent's PC anyways.

It's a lot more of a convoluted game but I enjoy it more than Terraria.

Chrono Trigger?
Symphonia of the Night is always a good one.

Has it become available for the PSN? If so, then definitely sign me up. Read a bit into it awhile ago and it looks phenomenal.

Oh yeah, Chrono Trigger is a given. I got that for him on the Wii. He has yet to beat it, but I would happily buy it again if it means showing Squeenix that there is still much desire for the Chrono series to endure. Either for remake, or endorsing their long forgotten copyrighted title: Chrono Break.

Can ROM both if needed. It's on PSP under Dracula X Chronicles.
Dead Space is one of my favorite games from last gen. You could even play Dead Space 3 co-op with him, if you have a PS3 as well and it suits your fancy.
The Tales games come highly recommended but I was luke warm about Xilia. Decent game, narrative is kind of childish with some mildly adult themes.

Oh, Wii is an option? The entire Metroid Prime catalog. They've even got a bundle for it.

Wii U is an option. He got that from my folks for Xmas. He'll soon be drowning in gamer goodness. I just need to keep it shallow enough to make sure he'll swim instead of doggy paddle.
....such a dumb analogy, but it came with the given figure of speech.

Nintendo Land is exceptional for couch co-op. The new 3D Mario is pretty decent too but I haven't dug my teeth into 4-5 player yet, so not sure. ZombieU is kind of a diamond in the rough, but it is rough itself. I'd avoid Monster Hunter, it's... grueling.

Really? I always wanted to jump into the Monster Hunter franchise, but never had an opportunity to do so until recently. Is it really that...exerting?

Should really stop listening to music from FFXI. It's tearing at the strings of my heart :<

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
