i dunno, ffxiv will have its 'honeymoon' just like every other mmo where people think its the greatest thing ever and will have a large initial spike, and other online games see a dip in activity for about ~3 months at least.

If they were going to ever merge XI servers, they wouldnt do it until several months after XIV being out if XI continues a downward trend in activity.
A certain amount of people will come back to XI, doing a merge too early would just piss alot of people off since theyd lose their names and have to rename their characters.

I was with a group of ~9 people and we went to Yorcia Weald instead for bayld/cape farming. Was a bit of a pain in the *** to navigate but once we got situated, we were making tons of bayld since everyone avoids that zone like rabies. It was an adventure!
