My dad complained about a few women that he worked with in the 90's who acted like this. Between jokes from him and the ones he encouraged from my brother, middle school was the most horrible time of my life at home and at school. HORMONES!!! LOL! Not sure how my parents ever even got married sometimes. He's getting worse with age too, unfortunately.
I am old school also and can be rather rough and use exceptional strong verb-age. But with my wife it is all yes Mrs. - Honey - Sweetheart. and with my 3 daughters it is whatever you need pumpkin - princess - etc. all hugs and kisses. To elder gents Sir, and ladies Ma'am. But get me around a bunch of beer fisting red-necks, bikers, Mexicans, hooligans, or whatever i can still get a bit rowdy.
Maybe your dad is lacking a space of his own to be his old school rowdy self and therefore it comes out in everyday life.
