Ok,went and worked out,ate and showered and now its wiiu rant time.
I know I shouldnt have bought it in the first place, and I'm paying the price because I did.
First problem! Nintendo being cheap *** wouldnt support any licensed surround sound formats and only use LPCM 5.1 over HDMI only.No optical port. The wiiu is coded so if you output from your tv via digital cables (my tv has an optical out) it outputs in basic stereo. So I have to HDMI to the tv and optical out for pro logic to my sound system. Not acceptable in 2012/2013.
Second problem! The hardware. We all know its about on par with a 360/ps3 as far as cpu/gpu go,and released nearly 10 years after them. And their hardware was 2-3 years old at their release anyways! Zombiu is graphically offensive, and only a minor step up from a wii game.Switch to wii emulation mode and the loaeding screens are 10x longer than the original wii!The hardware doesnt stop there though. Its a well documented case all over the internet that the wireless card is an absolute joke.I personally thought it was IMPOSSIBLE to get a wifi card worse than the ps3 one,but I was so wrong.I read a story online about a guy who has his wiiu 4 meters from his modem, with nothing in the way.He was having network problems and the nintendo customer care rep told him to move it closer. It worked within 1m of the modem. This is similar to one of my several problems.Having a range of 30m on the wifi card, yet alot of features wont work if you're outside several feet, all because nintendo are cheap *** and you have to get lucky and hope it works. Before anyone suggests my network, see "my problems!" below.
Third problem! Setup.A travesty.Between trying to get everything working, connected, accounts made and linked, wifi failing it takes forever.Settings then also get in your way.
My problems! We'll go in order how this went for me.I set it all up,during initial setup it helps connect to the internet.Which it didnt.I'm well within range (less than 10m away) and I couldnt connect.Every setting was right on automatic. So I did it manually, also didnt work.Did Wireless Protected Setup too, nope!Had to google some exact, specific settings to manually enter (not provided by nintendo or on their site at all).So that got me connected. Then I noticed I couldnt do anything online. After a while of frustration I brought my wiiu into the other room and put it 4 inches from the modem and shockingly it worked.Once the update was done,I moved back to the original location and nothing worked. This is all while still connected to the network, showing 2-3 connectivity bars.Couldnt browse the store, couldnt update a game patch, couldnt do anything.Keep in mind I have a multitude of wireless devices, some further away with alot more things between them and they all work properly.According to a google search, its a nintendo design to do this. Now the coup de grâce.While my Wiiu was updating to the latest fireware,I turned on my wii.Checked the firmware for my wii,it was up to date.So I downloaded the wii/wiiu transfer tool on my wii. Then the wiiu update finished, and went to the most recent fireware after it was installed. So I go into legacy mode on my wiiu, and download the wii/wiiu transfer tool. They're both downloaded within 20 mins of each other (factoring update finishing time for the wiiu) and I start the process.SD into the Wiiu, writes the needed data on.Put the SD card into the wii as instructed, starts preparing the transfer data......
"The version of this softwaredoes not match the target Wii U console. Please download the latest version of the Wii U transfer tool from the Wii Shop Channel and try again."
What......I just downloaded both of them a second ago..........
I go back out, delete both transfer tools and redownload them at the same time.Start the process back up.....
Same thing,same place.
This is on a saturday night so I cant call nintendo until earlier today. The nintendo rep on the phone said its an unknown error and they have never heard of it before. So here I am,paying over 400 euro for a wiiu + game and cant transfer my old wii stuff (probably have close to 150 euro's worth of downloads maybe) to my brand new wiiu AND wifi not properly working.I'm *** furious. The nintendo guy said I can send it to them for them to look at.Thats not gonna do any good because they cant transfer without my wii.It also sounds like they just *** up with the transfer tool versions and stopped updating one or some ***.The wifi however,is unacceptable.I'm in a seperate room from the modem, less than 10 meters away and not even a concrete wall in between it.Everything else in the same room gives 50%+ signal and works just fine, but nintendo *** it up yet again.
I;m getting up early tomorrow.Marching down to gamestop and getting this *** sorted.I'm gonna flip at the manager (because he's a knob anyways) because they sold me a product unfit for the use it was sold for because of purposely hidden facts.I'm gonna go above his head if I have to as well, because this just isnt *** on.
As a loyal Nintendo fanboy since my very first console, the super nintendo (not including a commodore 64 before that) I'm completely done. With their wii debacle. Now this.....I shouldnt have bought it in the first place and I'm paying the price for doing so.
I encourage everyone to not buy a Wiiu no matter how bad you want it.We all know every business choice is designed to *** over the consumer more and more, but this is my last straw.I've already given up on gaming in general, the new consoles and now this.I'm sticking to PC gaming and the odd current gen console game till they die,and I'm done.
We are Legion, and the GTX 690 reigns supreme!
