Not sure if its been said but what grinds my gear is when someone is doing a VW shout and is looking for dd's and no mention of r/e/m in their shout and you send them a tell and you get "you got e/r/m?" Well it would of been freaking great to know that crap before!!!

It's not hard to add 5 characters to the end of your shout!!! Jesus!

/end rant
I don't see a problem, seems perfectly reasonable to me to inquire about the gear of a person you're picking up.

When I give my resume to people and get nervous and say stupid things that ensure that they will never hire me. /facepalm.

Boss dude: "What positions are you interested in?"

Me: "I'll do anything really, it doesn't matter." (This is an engineering place, I can't do engineering or machinery jobs so I'd be restricted to administrative, janitorial, or assembly work. So by 'anything' it's understood by both me and boss dude that I mean one of those three. Boss dude and I have known each other for a year or two, this is not a first meeting by any means.)

Boss dude: "Sure it matters!"

Me: "Well, um, I'd really just like to have any job that will help me pay off my student loans so I can go back to school."

What boss dude said: "We'll see. We'll talk it over in the next few days."

What boss dude probably meant: "Smelly child, you can't come look for a job if you don't know what you want, and I am not going to go through the bother of hiring and training someone when they've admitted that they want to leave me someday to go back to school."

What I said: "Thank you, <Boss dude's name>. I'll talk to you soon."

What I meant: "Thank you, <Boss dude's name>. Now excuse me while I go bang my head into the wall for being a flubber-mouthed moron."

I've been dying for pizza for a week now. Someone just knocks on the door and when the bf answers it, I hear "That'll be $31.57"

My heart soars, the bf loves me, he got pizza, he'll be getting laid, woo pizza!

Then I hear "Sorry man, you have the wrong house."

Learn how to read an address, pizza man! My heart sits in pieces right now, you son of a ***.

(not having pizza grinds my gears)

JP Grind my gears. They know English, they speak it perfectly fine...but they refuse to speak it and refuse to even dignify someone who speaks it with a response. At least give me an "I need it" when I ask you if I can buy an abjuration if it drops.

It's not really that. Some people feel ashamed of attempting to speak in another language if they're not sure if what they're about to say makes any sense.
Same reason why I don't speak japanese to them, I could try, but I would probably not get a much better communication that way because of my shortcomings.

I have no problem trying to communicate with them in their language, I've used google translate + Copy and Paste to do so many times. I highly doubt that's their reasoning for it. I've even had some JP talk back to me using google translate. JP are all about that "polite and respectful" ***when it comes to their own race. If another person tries to communicate with them they don't even dignify them with a response. This isn't a racial thing, btw, I'd hate anyone else who did this just as much regardless of race. It's just that NO ONE else does this.

This, and also, it's really hard to maintain the fluency of a language if you don't use it on a daily or monthly basis. Our case as well as theirs. We can't expect everyone to oblige us on the assumption that everyone knows proper English. Just because in most countries it's mandatory to take English in school, doesn't mean that they retain what they learned in grade school.

Speaking from personal experience it's more likely they don't speak it because they can't do it without making mistakes. A lot of Japanese refuse to speak English even a little because they know of the inevitable storm of mistakes that would come out of their mouth. You'd be mistaken to think the Japanese can speak English perfectly fine. After high school they forget English to the point you would have problems asking where the restroom is located.

Also google translate is, more often than not, horrible at translating English to Japanese and the other way around. I've been in parties where the Japanese were trying to decipher the meaning of something obviously google translated, having problems figuring out what they were trying to ask.

This is why we have English from grade 3 to 9 (mandatory) and then 10-12 if you go to Gymnasium (like your high school) and sometimes university depending on what you choose.

When I came back to XI (for a very short period), I was duoing with a JP player, and we did our business in nothing but emotes. We went through the auto-translate seeing if there was any common language we both knew, but that was a loss. The emote thing might have been a goofy way to go about it, but I can't say that it wasn't fun...

O.o

Et cetera, so on and so forth...At least the effort was there on both parts.

Yes, I understand it's hard, hell I took french all 4 years of high school and I don't remember much from it either. But when you send a /tell all in auto translate to them asking to buy a drop if it drops, a simple "I'm sorry" in Auto translate would do. At least then you're letting me know you need the item as well and can't sell it to me for that reason instead of completely ignoring me.
