yeah we have an infinite amount of realities blah blah blah i get that.
but that doesn't mean technological revolutions won't happen in a similar manner.
the plot of full metal alchemist is nice and interesting and all but that's all it is. a plot.
unless you can burst through the time-space continuum you really won't know for sure either way though.
Screw the time-space continuum! I have green hair!

Ifrit.Ravahan said: On the subject of the persuit of happiness; If you're satisfied with mediocrity then great. America, for all its preoccupation with Christianity, probably the nation that best represents the principles of Darwin and LaVey. You who are content to understand just enough to get by and never learn why, and who are fine with a career that doesn't progress will be the rungs on the ladder for the men and women of ambition. Capitalism is survival of the fittest.
Buy low, sell high? That's short for "recognize that someone has undervalued their goods and rip them off in order to make a profit selling the same merchandise to people who don't have a connection to the seller." How about "hussling"? We are, all of us, taught from a young age to do what's right by us, to "look out for number 1". That's great advice, because that's exactly what everyone else is going to be doing.
Look at the giants of the American economy. Wal-Mart is a great example. They all screw absolutely everyone they can to stay on top, and that's why they're on top. That's why, if I may continue picking on them, Wal-Mart is the 19th largest economy on earth! To put that in perspective, the nation of Greece is 27th.
I kinda derailed myself... For me, I cannot be happy unless I'm at the top of my game. If I'm stagnating I'm miserable. Happiness, for me, is to be always learning, always improving, always straining for a bigger better slice... because that's what's going to make life easier for me and my family. For you, maybe a plateau is more comfortable than walking up hill. I say do whatever floats your boat and as long as you're not shitting where I walk I'm happy for you.
I suppose this is directed at what I said?
I don't see why people feel compelled to just buy into the "American Way" and expect that it will bring them fulfillment. There are much more important things in life than "looking out for #1"; namely, looking out for everyone else.
You say that looking out for yourself is what everyone is taught as a child. I seem to remember being taught to share, to play nice, and to consider other people's feelings. The problem is that we all do whatever is easiest for us, whatever benefits us most in the short term. As Excelior said above, that's not even good Capitalism. It's just poor philosophy.
Valuing things over people is simply ludicrous. You don't need to place value on money in order to attain it. You can be ambitious and achieve for the betterment of others, and yourself, without obsessing over being materially successful. It's called "working hard."
Do you actually want to be like Wal-Mart? Just because most people use similarly dishonest and arguably unethical means to achieve success, does not mean that it's the only way, or even the best way, to do so.

Even a small grow op takes a good deal of money to set it up, and unless mom is in on it and WANTS it grown, she's gonna notice at the very least when her light bill jumps $100+
People who grow, tend to have at least a decent income.. Growing weed takes a bit more attention and upkeep then the general garden variety plants.
Well if you plan to grow anything worth the effort anyways.. If you're going to risk the jail time and spend the money to set it up, you're not going to just throw some seeds in some dirt and let it do it's thing..

They are only hard to find if you don't want to work for 99% of the jobless people out there. There is always a job out there but the real question is "Do you want to do that said job?" Nothing wrong with working fastfood or the multiple labor jobs out there.
If someone really wants to find a job they can find one in a week or two. Might not be the office job or easy job you expect but will be a job...
I'd have to agree here. Before I started working again I had the chance to work at a place that took calls for people who wanted to "Start their own business for only 10$ to start." Interviewed with the guy who was a complete slime ball. He said that the goal was to work on peoples greed and then "Sell them another opportunity." Although I needed a job badly (Was facing foreclosure and repossession of my car.) I prayed that that guy didn't call me back.

I do not feel bad for the unemployed. You will never make it if you don't even try. Get up, get out and get something! I think they should drug test people on welfare as well getting this free money. It makes me sick.. I'm not sure if thats relevant to this topic or if what I said was relevant at all to the topic but that's just my state of mind. I beg to differ. Jobs are far from easy to come by in virtually every field lately, save maybe for extremely high-demand tech jobs. To those now unemployed, the reason they sit on their duffs is because of the fact that they're still receiving more money than an individual that works a minimum wage job, via benefits etc. (Which has been mentioned numerous times in here already.) In some cases you could say people are lazy, but for the most part its just people taking advantage of a completely broken system. I for instance was laid off from my previous employer, unable to find work, I moved shortly after and continued to job hunt for nearly 4 months. I wouldn't necessarily call that lazy. The fact I was denied unemployment benefits only fueled the need to find something quickly. To anyone from the outside looking in, they would almost immediately assume that I am lazy. Theres just some times where you can't find a job. Plain and simple. Taking advantage of this system is easy. I was unemployed and drew normal benefits for 6 months, then I moved and used a clause which extends benefits for ex-military who are forced to relocate due to an Honorable Discharge with orders written to return to NYS. Just as that extension was about to run out I applied for college and reapplied for unemployment as an enrolled student and basically restart my timer and as I am a student I am not even required to actively seek work anymore. Then that actually ran out and good ole Obama extended my benefits even further. On top of that I get money from the GI Bill now. Why the hell would I even apply for a job that I know I am going to make 500-800 bucks less a month than what I make on unemployment, that would be HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE.
Well then a hearty *** you. You obviously didn't deserve an honorable discharge because your conduct certainly isn't honorable. Please don't ever mention being a soldier again; you insult the few people who actually do work hard.
I hope with your high handedness that you actually laid down your life for a cause bigger than yourself. I hope you actually were in the military. if you wernt then i have a news flash for you. he DID work hard. even a lazy person in the military does things that people that havnt served never have to do. 4+ years of 40-60 hour weeks while not deployed and then every hour of every day while deployed.
his honor is in serving his country and giving 4+ years of his life up for something bigger than himself.
while im on my soap box ill address the complaining about jobs.
1) if you cant get anyone to hire you within 6 mo. then you are doing it wrong. seriously if it takes you 6 mo. to figure out that your current approach isnt working then maybe losing unemployment will give you a kick in the butt to try something new. necessity is the mother of innovation or something.
2) you arnt entitled to your way of life. it is a blessing. no one owes it to you especially the gov. if you can get food and shelter then your necessities are met. if you want more than you may have to find a new way of getting more. times have changed and those who change with it will do better than those who try to fight the change.
3) anyone can make $ anytime as long as you open your mind to alternatives. i know a guy who dumpster dives and sells stuff at the swap meet. another who drives around collecting scrap mettle and recycling it. several dozen who are mechanics or handymen or do lawn work. people buy stuff at goodwill and sell it on ebay. there are street performers. im sure there are tons more ways to make $ that i havnt come across.
4) if you want to never worry about making $ then become impossible to live without. you could start by reading the secretes of andrew carnagie as told by napolian hill or think and grow rich or the travlers gift. they will expand your thinking and help you to put yourself in a position to never have to worry about the economy again.

The men and women in our military do make extraordinary sacrifices. That does not exempt them from the laws of our country, the very ones they acted so honorably to protect. Why break them then? I think it is fairly clear that if you are willing to be dishonorable to your own country then you clearly didn't join the military to bring honor to it. You joined the military for your own personal benefit, which is perfectly acceptable. However, forgive me if I don't respect you.

From the few bits i have read here. Some do not understand that yeah it is possible to get a job within a week of looking but the point they are missing is not all jobs are willing to do on site training would rather have a licensed and trained applicant. It saves the company money. Also 90% of employers seeking workers are in the Medical field there are not many open hiring process for those who have no experience in those fields. In other cases not ever city town and village offer Transportation from city to city to make a long distance job possible, it comes down to location and luck for jobs these days and those employed are unaware that yeah when you score that nice job you have been in for possibly years things have changed. They say go apply and flip burgers but what they again don't realize coming from a former employer you save more money hiring teenagers and run a skeleton crew than hiring a person demanding full time and having the chance at getting insurance benefits from the company. So by stopping our unemployment the employers can survive us not receivng our extensions but the people losing them will lose out. You may see a drastic difference because its the holiday season but if it were any other time the companies would survive. The vote under this situation was poorly researched on the nay voters part and to them its just a way to save money on their budget. There are the few uninformed people who say those who collect unemployment are lazy and need to find jobs. In order to receive unemployment you have to have worked so many weeks and held a job long enough to be eligible they dont just give it away. The money comes from your best paid quarter divided by 26 if that formula is correct from my memory. Not to ramble on but the jobs that currently are available example mcdonalds will offer you a job giving you 20 hours a week competing with teenagers for their hours. Working these 20 hours and having to offer yourself to work any shift any time for a job cuts down your way of working multiple jobs. so do the math 20 hours x state minimum comes to average 160 per week. Tell me who can live off of that? If they are going to cut umemployment they need to offer the people job training or make deals with companies to run courses to get people back on their feet. Many want to work there are just not the right oppertunites. sorry if this seemed like a bunch of blah and not sure if some of this has been said but had to throw it out there.

Some interesting points. In case anyone had difficulty filtering through the grammar/spacing:
-Cheaper for employeers to hire teenagers
-Employers don't want to train new employees
-Traveling to jobs can be a ***
-People are taking too large of pay cuts
-Holiday season is not creating "sustainable" jobs

Finding people with self esteem low enough to work at mcdonalds is difficult :/ especially when they are all on their couches smoking cigarettes and eating Cheetos.
and then they're like *** it and start selling weed. Sadly anyone who's sitting on their couches all day, aren't going to be very good at selling weed. If they can't even have enough discipline to get off their ***, no way are they going to follow the golden rule of "don't get high on your own supply."

Unemployment isn't being cut off. They just have a cap. If in 99 weeks you *** doesn't have a job you just full of fail. Get off your *** and go get a shitty part time job and make the best of it until you get what you want.

no where in that sentence did i say that they were sitting on their couch while selling weed.

I could never work in any food industry, ever. Someone has to design and build the electrical systems and harnessing in high-end consumer machines. But maybe this part of the country isn't suffering as bad as others. The point I was trying to make was that unemployment might actually be inhibiting job growth, instead of promoting it to a degree. I just find it ironic. Cigarettes are $10.00 a pack here. It's not even practical to smoke on unemployment.
I dont think it's practical to smoke ever, but I suppose that's just my opinion. I enjoy cigars every once in awhile but creating a habit seems rediculously foolish just in terms of money.

Let me know. there are thousands of people who do this but I'll give you 1 example that I know of first hand. Lady at work: Her nephew in his early 20s. Loses his job. Applies for unemployment. Lives at home with his parents, has no financial responsibilities. He is currently in Europe, his unemployment checks get mailed to him and he has his mother either send them to him or cash/deposit them for him. He uses this money to do whatever he wants while on a vacation in Europe. Does he really need this money? Is he trying to get a job? Wtf would he look for a job? In his mind he is getting free money so he says *** it. You're missing the point. Does thousands constitute a majority of those on unemployment? That's like saying that *** are lazy because there happens to be 10 unemployeed in brooklyn.
I dont know if you just worded that incorrectly. I think what you ment to say was:
"That's like saying that BLACK PEOPLE are lazy because there happens to be 10 unemployeed in brooklyn."
I hope you did. But if not. you my friend have just proven to me that you are an ignorant racist. Dont ever use the word "***" to descride Americans of african decent again. *** schmuck.

I don't think you can prove that unemployment encourages people to stay unemployeed. I think what you ment to say was: "That's like saying that BLACK PEOPLE are lazy because there happens to be 10 unemployeed in brooklyn." I hope you did. But if not. you my friend have just proven to me that you are an ignorant racist. Dont ever use the word "***" to descride Americans of african decent again. *** schmuck.
I hope you understand that it was spoken not in the context of myself, but in the context of somebody else who IS racist. Racist in the same way as saying that unemployed people are lazy is bigotted. Do try to understand that I am not calling them *** lol.

A lot of Americans have this entitlement attitude that they need to drop. I support some amount of a social safety net but this attitude where people are too good to work underemployed needs to stop. Unemployment benefits going for 99 weeks seems more like a safety trampoline to me. oh really, why dont u come over here and get a *** job that pays u below the poverty line...we *** worked far beyond those extensions...people are robbing stealing and killing over here for money especially minorities..go *** yourself..***. i wish i could just shoot u in the face for your insensitivity.there are children starving over here. but wait dont you sell your young for profit...shitface

Etcs THANK U SO MUCH..HOPEFULLY SOME OF THESE IDIOTS ARE READING THIS

Understood. I apologize for that. I just hate racism. Im glad we cleared that up. Just came off as though you would normally call black people that. Although, I would recommend choosing your words better next time. Peace to you.

Maybe if you spent less time getting emotional on the Internet, and more time looking for a job, this wouldn't be a problem.
Unemployment extension didnt pass. 99weeks is up at the end of November for a lot of people.
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A bill to extend federally-funded benefits for long-term jobless workers failed to pass in the House of Representatives Thursday. To pass the House, the bill needed to capture two-thirds of the votes -- 258 lawmakers voted in favor of the extension, while 154 voting against it. The bill would have extended special federal unemployment insurance benefits through February, calling for $12.5 billion in emergency spending. Without an extension, long-term jobless workers will start losing benefits in coming weeks, with about two million cut off by the end of the year.
