I feel like I am a little late on the solo top discussion but I'm gonna chyme in anyway.
Solo top is usually better when you vs. 2 people if you have any form of range and even without it, 9 times out of 10 they will push the lane onto your turret. Just stay in exp range and lastie when you can, never push your lane. You want the minion wall right on the line of the turret, getting it there and keeping it there are easier said than done. Sometimes you need to tank them for a bit right there and force the wall, just don't get caught.
Don't mess with them unless they take turret damage or you are at least lvl 5. If you do it right, you can be level 5 before they are 4. Even if you don't make it that far ahead, the big jump will be 6 when they may just be hitting 5. On some champs such as akali or poppy, with correct planning, you can get an easy double kill right after level 6.
It takes strategy more than pure attacks. With poppy, try and convince them to let you wall pin them. Akali, throw out a few shurikens just to mess with them, let them come after you, drop your shroud and shuriken the squishiest, wait a second and blow your load. If they are not level 6 yet, it means you win. Then start going for lasties while you rock them out of lane over and over. The key is using someone that scales better on levels than farm (to an extent obviously, like pre level 13)

You sound like you know the game inside and out o.o
Im fairly new to LoL, i enjoy using the ranged type champs...saving up for Miss Fortune atm. I'm getting pretty good with Ashe til then though.
For ashe and mf, the main thing is farm and staying in lane to get that farm. That's why support with a ranged ad is so popular bottom. If you rock just lasties and get all of them you can bf sword around 8 or 9 minutes into the game, without any kills.
Another big thing is: attack speed>damage>attack speed>damage>attack speed>damage
Or damage first then attack speed. The key is to alternate it on some level. The meta calls for survive ability in most situations but the ranged ad need to work on that a bit more with positioning than items since your entire idea is to dish out epic damage. It's also about chooseing the target. I don't care who your team is focusing, unless you catch them and like 2 more hit can finish them, ignore them and go for squishies. It's really easy to focus what everyone else is focusing but a lot of the time is the tank just trying to hold onto them to keep them from doing anything and starting the engagement.
Never go just attack speed on anyone unless you are going for on hit effects which is pretty much teemo and kog and even then it tends to go the ap route.
rarely go all ad and even then you still usually need some attack speed.
The biggest factor of all though: lasties, lasties and lasties. Every time you miss a lastie you are throwing the game just a little bit. Never auto attack at random for them, you want to just have it low enough to finish it off. Anything else pushes the lane. If you are alone and nobody is in lane against you, you should be able to keep a wave in one spot for at least 3 waves. This also helps in pushing because on the 4th wave you suddenly have 2 entire waves pushing and if you are far enough back, you may have a 3rd by the time you hit their turret.
Another fun fact: if you wanna push your lane but not have to sit there and risk being ganked, kill 2 more minions on the other side than you have. It works best on fresh waves hitting each other and you kill the turret minion and 3 melee mionions. Every single time your lane will push and if they push far enough without any interference it becomes a massive wave that can kill an entire turret at times (again, if left alone) its an afk push (I dont know what its really called).
well normally on Ranged ADs i do Doran's Blade -> T1 Boots with BF sword on first b -> Berserker's or IE depending on money situation -> Berserker's (if i dont have already) -> PD -> Bloodthirster with the items afterwards depending on the enemy team
I will, for sure, take that to heart Shinobu. I'll have to re-read it to make it set but I'll certainly attempt to apply your post about solo-laning against 2.
I have a hard time gauging last-hits, universally. Usually I'll time it and then minions take it, or I'll overshoot it by a fraction of HP and, again, minions take it. Just experience I guess. I find that, with Poppy, she doesn't get good at farming until mid-late game, after I've got her primary attack-speed gear allocated.

Last hitting as Lux is even more annoying (especially in lane) :<
At least late game one Lucent Singularity will demolish a whole wave of 15. :)
I'm getting a little better at it, but it's really tough since Lux's auto attacks do like 40 damage. I typically charge a bunch of minions with lucent singularity then hit them for easy last hits with my passive, but then turrets like to eat them. x.x
A lot of pro AP mid players max the AD mastery in the offense tree to better help last hit. It doesn't hinder you in any way taking it over the AP mastery since 3 AP is negligible.
Amazing comeback! We were down in kills by about 10/25 and had 3 turrets down (but only 1 of theirs) I haven't the slightest clue how we pulled that one off.
On another note, I've discovered the value of IP boost... One day was 290IP, and I was okay with this, but if I buy 3 day bundles it's only 173IP a day. That means $5 every 6 or so days and I'll have a full rack of T3 runes before Level 30. :)
Has anyone here at least given this game a try or plays it? I enjoy it a lot for what it's worth. It's a MOBA-style game and it's completely FREE unless you want to buy skins(merely aesthetic) for champions. All the champions are well-balanced and can be purchased with Influence Points earned from matches.
