HoN like LoL, but you have to pay to play I think.
Another edit, yep! The cost for a HoN account is only $30 USD! This is a one time fee for the life of the account, there are NO monthly or hidden costs.
The price is now $10.
They reduced it a long time ago. @@; They should change it on their DL page where it tells you that info then. :p Ahh, too much work! xD
They are taking the Riot method of marketing. :'p

My friend plays this game and the official forums were no help to him so I'm posting here for him to see if anyone else can help him out, since this website won't load for him lol. Takes him forever for some reason. Anyway, here it is:
Quote: Hello, this is my first thread in the forums and I need some help, REALLY.
First of all I'd like to say that I have tried every possible solution I've seen in any guide, thread, etc. NOTHING helped me, it is still a 5% chance that my game would start.
Previously, someone added a thread where his game would look like this (Graphics bug) http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR9o6ZBonYBck1A9bgV2PaAJc-JgBg81C_iNM0mdCldrd6PPCbqBA&t=1
For me, that is not a problem at all.. I got used to playing like that to be honest... Sometimes I would alt+tab and back and things would be fixed but anyways lets get to the crash problem.
Things I have tried:
- Anti-aliasing problem.
- Going to game.cfg and setting UserSetResolution=1
- Updating my drivers of graphic card. (Radeon HD 5970)
- DirectX11
- Cleaning PC from dust
- Double checking graphics card isn't overheated (I also tried to check on temperature while in game.. It seems fine 43~45 but the load goes up to 98 and drops to 3 constantly)
- Downgrading my graphic drivers, I tried... but failed.
- Disconnecting my 2nd monitor (Which has nothing to do with it because my card can take a game on 6 monitors with like... x1,000 better graphics.)
- Reinstalling the game, Reinstalling driver.
- Using CCleaner.
- Closing every single application including google chrome and IM programs which I don't really think they affect BECAUSE:
I used to play the game just fine... This only happened recently.
Some info: (Please ask for more if needed)
- Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
- AMD Phenom(tm) II X 4 965 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
- 4GB RAM.
- ATI Radeon HD 5970 Series.
- DirectX 11.
I can play Battlefield Bad Company 2 JUST FINE with everything set to HIGH.
And what really is annoying me is that I USED TO PLAY LoL JUST FINE!...
Something has gone terribly wrong.
Thanks for reading this long thread and I'm looking for the most help... Please help me out.

Wasn't super enthused about the game at first. It bills itself as a casual game, but a split-second mistake early on can easily screw up an entire match. There's no real introduction to the strategy (lane-ing, carry, etc), nor exactly how a turret works (don't attack an enemy champion in turret range, even if you have minions, etc), among other things that have to be learned through trial and error. And if you blow it a few times, you just lost the game for your whole team, who will likely not be shy about their, er, "feedback."
Also nevermind the fact that there's a serious "whale" problem: i.e., there's nothing preventing experienced users from decimating unsuspecting new users and causing them to quit in frustration. Most of the low-levels I'm playing with have level 25+ accounts, but find it fun to slum it up.
Now that I'm a bit higher level and have access to things like Flash, mid-level runes, etc, it's a lot more fun. But I nearly bounced from the game four times due to just how unforgiving the new user experience was, and had to be dragged back in by friends. I bet they could expand even faster if they focused more on the first week or so of a new user's lifetime, and tried to front-load the fun and back-load the frustration.

It's not always people who have multiple accounts. I'm level 30 and have played with low levels, and the game seems to adjust the teams to try to compensate for the different levels. I was level 30, Scrumpet was level 5, the rest would be around 15 or so.
This is fine for me, I have a huge advantage with 30 mastery points and full rune pages with level 20 runes. Scrumpet would get beaten pretty badly by higher levels, but I could easily carry the team.
For making mistakes, one person usually can't doom the team from the beginning. Yes, they can feed a champion or two, which is a giant pain, but it just cause me to start team battles earlier on, and focus on last hit/farming.
As far as the community being rather unforgiving, it's easy to frustrated at higher levels when you expect other players to know the basics. Don't overextend, especially with a jungler. Don't tower dive early on.
I wish people would just have some consideration for others. If you're playing a new champ, give it a few tries in custom games. Don't be so quick to jump on other players who die. Also, I figure if you're level 30, you'd have a good idea of what a lot of the champions can do, but oh so many don't.
/shrug
Edit - And is it too much to ask to check online for general builds for characters? :/
Edit 2 - Team structure and balancing teams instead of just playing whatever you want

I agree, I probably would have quit this game early on if it weren't for friends, however, there is really no way to moderate experienced players from the less experienced.
For example, players from the original Dota and HoN are able to come into League of Legends and play well based on their MOBA gaming experience.
MOBA games in general, are not for the weak of heart.
These games require team communication and strategy.
I feel games like this follow basic social laws:
There needs to be more Indians that Chiefs.
Your leader/tank should obviously be leading the way.
Don't be a hero if it's not worth it.
When a teammate is f***ed beyond belief, it's better to run away than try to be a hero and cause two deaths instead of one.
Play it safe.

Taric is an amazing support tank~
Stun locking + healing HP + Mana Summoner spell = awesome team synergy
We won a lot of games with Taric as tank. ^^;
Definitely/most likely won't be using him as solo queue tank.

Spence: Your reply kinda proves my point, though.
There is no explanation anywhere in the new-user experience about what feeding, carry, jungling, or any of that is. The game is unplayable without knowing that strategy and terminology. Stuff like that needs to get front-loaded into the NUX. Otherwise, the learning curve is pretty steep, and a good chunk of your new users are going to bounce.
A game should never (NEVER!) require people to go to 3rd party sites to learn the most basic of rules about how to play your game. You can't bill yourself as a casual-friendly game and then, in the first five minutes, tell your n00bs to go research strategy somewhere else before giving it a stab.
The core game itself is great. (So was DOTA, which it's a near straight-up port of.) But if a fairly hardcore gamer like myself who doesn't shy away from PvP gets frustrated enough to bounce four times in my first week of fiddling around with it (even with 3rd party site guides), I bet they could be huge if they just focused a bit on their on-boarding / retention early-on.
(Edit: Summoner name is Jaerik Flynn.)

That's true, Jaerik.
It took me a while to figure out that a lot of items were part of sets and granted bonuses. Things like jungling and jungle creatures were a mystery to me. I had no idea they gave bonuses either.
Hop on, Scrump.

So does anyone know what might be the problem with my friend's game? :/
Has anyone here at least given this game a try or plays it? I enjoy it a lot for what it's worth. It's a MOBA-style game and it's completely FREE unless you want to buy skins(merely aesthetic) for champions. All the champions are well-balanced and can be purchased with Influence Points earned from matches.
