I was speaking more specifically for Ahri. Passive spell vamp can manage HP recovery, the extra HP (since she has low HP) and Mana Regen helps avoid recalling often. Forcing the opposition to recall allows you to get ahead in XP. Generally I use Meki's since I end up upgrading it to build +mana for Archangel's early.
It's a double edge sword. Her passive is amazing to recover, but using it makes you push your lane too far. Making you vulnerable to ganks.

Best item to start with on 95% of the characters is Boots + 3 potions.
<.< Paying attention to your surroundings is hard. Or so I hear...

Not really, unless you're playing bots. But even then, it's no different than any other game in that aspect. >.>

Unless you are bottom with a support starting with 2 wards + CV, pushing your lane will be very punishing.

A decent jungler will make people use their flash and then come back before the cooldown is back. Warding helps a lot but good junglers can avoid them easily, or if you are too over extended, you'll use flash but die anyways.

In the 1600 ELO's, pushing your lane early is going to get you killed, a lot.
lol It's really not hard to pay attention and take care. I'm not saying I don't ever get killed in ganks, but I'm fairly good at not allowing it to happen. Regardless of how hard I'm pushing. Map awareness is key and can be done without a support spamming wards and CV.

(Wards are amazing, not down playing them. Just saying you don't have to be extreme to pay attention.)

I'd agree with Shiroi. Boots + pots is the way to go on most, especially AP mid, where it's important to be able to dodge skillshots.

The only time I ever start with sapphire crystal is with Ryze. Doran's blade on some AD carries depending on who I'm laning with/against.

I'll usually take cloth/pots or doran's blade top lane.

I'm surprised I'm not bored of it yet. I guess the match ups always changing is enough variety for me.

Good points. But things like...
Caitsith.Shiroi said: »
Successful ganks does not mean to get a kill too, making someone waste their summoners is also a success, it makes them wide open.
isn't necessarily true. Yeah, it's good they "waste" their summoner spells. But it doesn't leave them wide open, if they're smart. You just adjust to the new situation for a couple of minutes.

It really only makes you weaker in the lane if you heavily rely on your summoner spells. If you do, you need to learn not to. That's just bad form.

Anyway, all of this is situational. There's no one way to go about things. If there was, the game would definitely be one of those "same old" games. <.<

I must be a masocist or something, because I keep playing dominion knowing Im going to get bad teams or maybe Im doing something wrong, but my placing in 1st-3rd I would think would say otherwise.

Eitherway Id think having 1 tank/beefy champ would be ideal for Dominion no? Every game we do, theres no tanks. The other team, sure has a tank...or I get the afkers ; ;

I'm totally new to LoL.

What's the general consensus on Riven? She seems to be up my ally, but I'd have to farm around 5k more to get her.

Riven is as of now one of the more constant junglers in the game. She doesn't suffer from the necessity, that other junglers do, of relying on their ulti's to have a successful gank. However she also has a better skill set for soloing top than most. Her dashes allow her to do multiple things that make her powerful. She is able to get away from most ganks by being able to combo around. She can also dive turret and then shield out to take almost no damage from turret. Plus having a shield that scales off of AD allows her to build heavy damage but still be able to take plenty. Personally I prefer her solo top though that may just be because of my play style as an assassin type. However to be able to be successful with her takes lots of practice and it helps starting with other champions where the skill cap isn't quite as high.

I swear I try to be calm and nonchalant in ranked games, but dayyyyyyyyyyyum are some people just so bad. Just had a 2/12/10 Brand. Luckily they rest of the team made up for it.
