Protect 5: What A Waste.

While having and using protect is very useful even endgame. Getting 5 isn't that big of a deal. As previously said 5 more def is nothing. However 55 will effect dmg a bit

I only bought Protect V on my WHM because accession ProV still beats ProIV(minus the MP cost) as far as meriting Pro; eh I'll take ShellraV capped over a single ProtectraV;

In all reality that last merit in shellra V isn't going to save you that much more dmg either. But it always will save some instead of sometimes will sometimes wont. Well unless your tank hasn't taken into account how many merits you have and stacked too much -MDT gear for your shellra V

WHM has spells that do the same thing, why bother

Personally I've been saved by whms with 1 merit in martyr alot of times. Instant curing while silenced or whatever gooooooooooo.

phalanx II nay now too? lol not like i have it, i only merited dia III its so sexy.

Depends on what you do but once you hit 80 there wont be many situations where you need to phalanx peopel and can't /sch

meh i only have dia III, i think slow II and paralyze II more worth getting, and if i soloed alot i would go for Bio III instead of dia, but dia is still too god damned sexy and shines in xp so much, which is basicly what i rdm for. :(

Not worth it unless you're going to cap it. With /SCH Accession it's even less useful because Phalanx is stronger than Phalanx II. PLD can Phalanx themselves now anyway.

They both cap at 28 (first thing I tested after hitting 80), but having Phalanx II does mean you can still put the effect on others even if not /SCH (or, on /SCH, without burning precious Stratagem charges).

Though, sure, 5/5 or nothin'.

I personally put 1 merit in Martyr, yes devotion is awesome. Though a lot of time i gave MP to a PLD or RDM and they would not use it to save someone or w/e. Having Martyr helped me a lot when out of mp. It's a last resort ability just before benediction so yea not worth putting more than 1 merit in it.

Not true. A 75 rdm can get a 30 phalanx if they meritted enhancing and had alot of gear. Not sure how much more a 80 one can get. Probably another 2-3.

Not only if you are out of MP, if you are silenced too and more often when you are in dark art (to do an aspir) to dont have a penality cost.

No it's not the same thing, here you have a cure 4 for 0 MP, almost no hate, and instant cast. Its a life saver ;)

most of the whms i know from endgame do protectra5 1/5, shellra5 5/5, devotion 4/5. Although now with protect5 being a purchasable spell i could see taking tectra5 merit away and making devotion 5/5. Then just subbing /sch for tectra5 effect. Martyr is kind of useful but imo shellra5 5/5, devotion 5/5 and just bring ECHO DROPS lol. Its sad a whm would be in a situation where they have no mps, an rdm isnt refreshing them or back up healing for them in endgame? yuck.

Also for rdm i know alot of rdms go dia3, phalanx2 for stuff like (salvage? think its salvage) I went the other way. Rdm was made to be a one man band. I refuse to merit in a way that makes me a pty slave lol. ppl say paralyze2 is worthless but i disagree. ive noticed para2 proc much more often than para1 with only having it unlocked. phalanx2 1/5 just for low man situations where jobs might need a little defense boost for a while. bio3 is hawtness. slow2 makes a huge difference. blind2....LOLblind2

Either they both cap at 28 despite skill, or there's a change to much wider tiers past 300 skill. 'course, Phalanx was already known to cap at 28...so I'd say the former is more likely.

I went out to Altep after hitting 80, popped Light Arts, and tested both Phalanx and level 5 Phalanx II with 326 skill (after gear). Both of them negated 28 damage from 1000 Needles, same as they would at 300 skill.

Also, of note, Enspells on TW mobs out in Altep were doing 20 damage, not 21 as they should have with that much skill.

Again I'd like to actually see something on that.
