I want to know what everyone is using at the moment for ffxi.

What is the best set up for FFXI.. gaming machine wise...

I am shopping for a new CPU system, and Im not about to go out and Pimp out for 1000,00 CDN for a new top end.. but looking for something considerable and has the specs like this...

AND.. upgrade me a Good Vid card PCI/E ( not sure what size and brand...) and what about a power supply?? ( Pls note, I am not playing Call of Duty or anything major.. but wan t to be looking at reducing some lag and some ram issues?

Anything out on the market brand new these days will quite happily play FFXI. Mine cost £499, and I had to put a £30 Graphics Card in it, and 2 GB RAM for.. £40 I think (LolVista ; ;) and now it will play FFXI with whatever else I want open easily.

Anything with more than one core would run FFXI excellently as it splits the clock cycles instead of stressing all on one core affecting performance of the game while other things are running in background.

Try looking around here. Its a start, and even the cheap end will play ffxi w/o an issue. Just remember though, you get what you pay for.

Honestly, 7 > Vista, and either will need atleast 4 gigs of RAM do run efficiently, because they're both memory hogs, 9gb free HDD is a laughing stock no-a-days, You want atleast half a terrabyte if you're going for a gaming rig that will last you a good couple years at the least. I'm currently running on HD ATI 3200 graphics, built into my motherboard (intergrated)

I dropped 600 dollars on my rig, Purchased off the shelves of Bestbuy, and it's pretty decent if you're just looking for something that will run average games.

Honestly, I'm personally looking to build a better rig, or perhaps atleast upgrade and buy more ram and a another video-card for the sake of the lulz.

Doesn't FFXI have some issues with multicore CPUs? I've noticed this myself after upgrading to Quad, and the lag seemed worse than before...

Ugh, 30 is still the cap isn't it? SE really needs to get off their lazy bums and adjust the software to get with the times.

I get 29.4 Max in non laggy areas I've never got higher ; ; CMON SE! Get with the times.

The best CPU to run FFXI is a single core 3-4.0+ghz CPU. FFXI doesn't use any of the other cores. If all you do is play FFXI, that's all you need. Just try to have a good amount of ram 2-4G and a decent video card and you should be ok.

SE isn't going to increase to 30fps cap. The game is coded with it and with FFXIV coming out, I wouldn't bet on that changing any time soon.

Anything made in the last half-decade will kick FFXI up and down the street, unless you hack the graphics settings through registry or windower.

Remember though, FFXI is hard locked at 30fps, no matter how awesome your PC, it won't surpass the limits put on it by the developers.

Don't even bother with integrated graphics cards (meaning *** ATI). They won't be able to run half of the games that are on the shelf anyway. If you want the best possible CPU to run FFXI, just use logic. If a PS2 can run it, just about anything can...aside from the failbox.

My Core i5 really puts these system requirements to shame, it's just too bad it can't take full advantage of it. Shouldn't have a problem with FF14's graphics though <3

only lag i truely exerance is fresh zoneings wich i think might be the game engine itself having problems loading faster then hardware can support

Yes FFXI isn't multi threaded BUT the nature of many PC users is to have multiple programs and background processes running.

Having a multi core CPU is great for these reasons. I can run multiple instances of the game, FireFox with 20 extensions and 20 tabs open, Photoshop, Winamp/Foobar, uTorrent open with little to no hit on performance.
It was tried, and it failed. The resulting effect didn't just increase the speed of the game's FPS from the 30FPS cap, but increased the speed at which everything ran, every effect, your players movement, sort of like a speed hacking effect. Everything ran in fast forward motion.

Hmm, my laptop has a Intel i5 2.4Ghz, 4GB DDR3 and a RadeonHD 4430 (i think) and it only ran the FFXIV beta at 5-10fps thats one hell of a graphics intense game, my laptop hands 2 FFXI's at 2048x2048 res, full effects, shadows, weather and Drawdistance at 20 at 25-30 FPS but it could barely run FFXIV

I have an AMD 1000, 256mb ram. Runs ffxi.

Have a AMD 3200, radeon x700, can't dual box properly.

Have an AMD4000, with a decent Vid card, can finally dual box. Can triple box or more, but ram loads up or something and get glitchy graphics.

Belt this PC around 4 months ago to max out crysis, GTA IV, and FSX. Generally any PC made after 2005 can run ffxi above average.

I'v been building PCs since I was 12 yo and found that both ATI and Nvidia are good, just go with whatever software you prefer, for me I always find ATI better with HD TVs settings wise and coloring.
