Its true, every woman I know loves that movie. I think I lured my bf in to breeding with me cause I'm the only one who hates it, and he also hates it with a passion (also Dirty Dancing *** horrible)

I'd say "doesn't everyone?"

But like 99% of the women I've ever met in my life love that movie for some *** idiotic reason specific to certain mutations in select female minds.

I married the one I've found who doesn't.

It was one of those books that was occasionally banned by school boards and to 15-year-old me that was reason enough to read it.

I still think that the real reason it's banned isn't because of objectionable content, it's just really bad and school boards don't need kids wasting time reading self-indulgent tripe.

Just have them read A Perfect Day for Bananafish instead. Same author. Better story and about 1/10th the length.

I so hate that movie.

If it wasn't, chances are your life is now and you long for those summer nights of youth where you drank beers with your buds that your older brother bought for you after the big game and then gave that kid an atomic wedgie, or raced juiced up deathtrap hotrods with your delinquent friends! And date rape wasn't just okay, it was expected!

Apropos to DPF:

The responses frequently amuse me, however. Even with their oft-abusive tone.

The well-written stuff is generally pretty melancholy. See: The Body.

The overrated stuff tends to be pretty heavy handed and melodramatic, with an (un)healthy does of self-absorption. See: Catcher in the Rye.

I have not read this particular coming-of-age novel, nor have I seen the movie. Even when I was 16 I didn't want to read anything by a 16-year-old.

I wouldn't really call it depressing, a little eye opening for younger people but not really depressing.
