That said, it can also be a sign of serious depression issues.
This is usually where my extreme working times come from. Normally I'm rather lazy.

I mean whenever I've had extreme working times it's been due to other unknown reasons, but when I'm depressed I usually just want to do nothing because nothing sounds like something I want to be doing

Whenever I end up working crazy hours (hasn't happened in a looooong time) it's usually due to some problem being difficult to solve, and I've sort of learned to curb that because I end up skipping meals and not knowing what time it is by the time I'm done

From what I've gathered from the above posts it seems like those long hours might be necessary and they sound pretty dedicated to be able to do it. Though I've never owned my own business, so I can't really talk from personal experience

I know a couple small business owners and have worked for a startup where I was the only employee besides the owner. Most small business owners I know are incredible dedicated to their business, and will sacrifice a lot to make sure things run smoothly.

Though the situations various small business owners/self employed people are in can vary wildly. My dad works for a small business and at any point the owner can probably just *** off to some South American country and retire, but he loves the business and loves making money so he probably wouldn't do that. I mean he does a lot of the work himself too, he's not just sitting behind a desk barking orders or something. The guy climbs ladders and grinds floors like any person that works for him

On the other hand the startup I worked for was in a situation where the owner had no salary, and they had like 1 client. He needs to make sure his product gets completed and his client gets what he wants or he is ***. I remember him working like 80 hours a week.

Edit: This also explains why it took me working 12+hr days and 60+ hour weeks before I finally broke down and went to a hospital.

Is there any way you guys could trim the long hours back?

Given it appears to be an owner-operator situation, likely not. Owning your own business can be very rewarding, but also very demanding.

Truth be told, her situation isn't uncommon in these scenarios. When you own your own business, your work tends to be your life and it tends to control all other aspects of things.
Euhm yeah...I dont have a life (hence I like my online time, thats my time) We never do anything, my phone rings constantly on my day off and I have two deadlines a day.
I love my job but......yes very demanding.

Wait, so both of you work out of the house for the same company or something?
We're both selfemployed but our business is on his name, he gets credit for pretty much anything we do though. We work together everyday for long hours, in the end I think we're doing pretty good, We get along great...just not ...you know lol

I mean you could always try to make the working from home together thing more "fun"

I don't know exactly what you guys do though, so I don't know if you need to be ready at any time for someone to barge through your front door

Is there any way you guys could trim the long hours back? :X I can be a bit of a lazy bum, so I don't know how people do the like 25 hour work days thing

Working even when you don't have to is by many considered to be a sign of studiousness and dedication to being the best you can be. Especially in America.

That said, it can also be a sign of serious depression issues.

If he's always been like that, then it may merely be his personality to constantly be doing something. If that's a deviation from the norm or prior behavior, I would say it could be a red flag.

Not a hard and fast rule, but still something to keep in mind.

if i was the guy in the situation... i would say go with random ***. you would definitely get my attention. you are right though. there are probably couples who have it worse. however, i always say everything impacts people differently. you can't just say "it's not a big deal". if it's something that impacts you, you have to address it. even if it's hard (blah blah innuendo). you can say it's whining about nothing, but it's gotten to the point it's even a small bit of an issue. the longer you go, the more of a thing it becomes. worse case scenario there's an awkward conversation. best case scenario there's an, 'sorry you didn't feel loved sex'. that eye contact passionate get modded etc etc. sound like you have love. do the maintenance to keep it working properly.

I'm at 12 years and 3 kids V, that's no excuse. Your needs are important enough to warrant a conversation, placing blame isn't the direction any adult should go in that situation either. It's really none of my business, but at least bring up the conversation, because he can't be happy with that arrangement either unless he's banging a co-worker.

I'll drop the subject if you'd like, but I feel your pain as someone with some self-worth issues too.

Idk
I wouldnt know when to bring up a conversation like that. Our hours are weird to say the least, I'd rather not bring it up since we work together every day and bringing that up would create an akward work environment to say the least...I like tranquil work its stressfull enough as it is.

Damn now I think about it, we're like always working (sure I have my laptop to post meaningless posts on forums and to poke the occasional mob on XI) but our days are like this:
Wake up at 7, get the kids ready to go to school, breakfast.
8.30 work starts
15.30-15.45 if we're lucky we get to have lunch here and pick up the kids, drive them to whatever afterschool ***they have going.
17 get back to work till...last night was 23h.
I usually go straight to bed after work and he watches tv till half past midnight (I dont know how he does it 6 hours and a half of sleep I'd be like a zombie if I'd do that every day)

Sure sometimes there is a calm day, then I make some time for myself (aka household) but he just always works even on his day off, which makes me feel bad cause I'm not, very annoying ><)

With having said this, most couple I know who do what we do... they end up breaking up, I get why though.

Maybe its just me. There's one constant in my whole relationship and thats that I always have to take initiative. I just hate that, makes me feel very unwanted tbh (I have some serious selfesteem issues, I used to do some pretty messed up ***cause of it(still do sometimes when I'm not feeling well)).
so throughout the years I kind of stopped taking initiative and its grown into this weird thing where we're more like best friends then an actual couple.
I tell myself I dont care cause thats just less painfull and imagine there are alot of couples who have it worse then us and that I'm whining about nothing.

...End of uncoherent rant

I blame it on 15 years and 2 kids,I dont feel like whining about it to him because I dont feel like making him feel bad. It would be like pointing fingers while Im probably partially the problem ... if that makes sense.

just tell him what you're telling us and how it makes you feel. if he gets mad, tell him you're not criticizing, you just want him to know how you feel cause it's causing you issues. if he's a ***, *** him. if he pulls out his ***, *** him.

48 years over here... I once worked 25 hours straight and still had gas left in the tank.
